Else Halling
Else Halling (3 July 1899 – 14 February 1987) was a Norwegian textile artist. She is known for her reconstructions of old Norwegian tapestry, and taught weaving in Trondheim, Drammen and Oslo. She decorated public institutions such as the Royal Palace in Oslo, the Akershus Castle, the Stortinget building, and the Oslo City Hall. Personal life Halling was born in Øvre Eiker to a priest, Johannes Swensen, and Marie Halling. She was a granddaughter of priest and labour movement pioneer, Honoratus Halling, and niece of educator, Sigurd Halling. She died in Oslo in 1987. Career Halling was educated at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry in Kristiania, and eventually made further studies in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, France and Austria. KÃ¥re Jonsborg
KÃ¥re Mikkelsen Jonsborg (11 January 1912 – 10 July 1977) was a Norwegian painter and textile artist. Background KÃ¥re Jonsborg was born at Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway. He was the son of John Andreas Mikkelsen (1873-1944) and Anne Elise Ebbell (1884-1950). At five years of age, his family moved to Solør, where his father worked as an artsmith. He studied under Axel Revold, Jean Heiberg and Georg Jacobsen at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry in Oslo from 1933-38. From 1965 until his death in 1977, he was employed by the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts. Career Jonsborg debuted at the Autumn Exhibition (''Høstutstillingen'') in Oslo during 1935. Three years later he won the 3rd prize in the competition for decoration in Oslo City Hall. His works span from oil, tempera, woodcutting and through to stone mosaics. Honoratus Halling
Honoratus Halling (14 November 1819 – 9 April 1886) was a Norwegian priest, magazine editor and non-fiction writer. He was born at Odalen (now Nord-Odal) in Hedmark, Norway. He was the son of parish priest Peter Herman Halling (1777–1825) and Nikoline Moe (1787–1865). He took a theological degree at the University of Christiania in 1843 and subsequently held various clerical positions. In 1858, he was a parish priest at Horten in Vestfold. He became mayor of Horten, but resigned after a year. He was priest of Lom in Oppland (1864-1875) and took the same position in Østre Aker (1875-1885). During the mid 1800s, he resided in the Enerhaugen neighborhood of Christiania (now Oslo). He started the magazine '' For Fattig og Riig'' in 1848, which he edited from 1848 to 1855. Øvre Eiker
Øvre Eiker is a municipality in the traditional and electoral district Buskerud in Viken county, Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Eiker. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Hokksund. The old municipality of Eiker was divided into ''Øvre Eiker'' (upper Eiker) and ''Nedre Eiker'' (lower) on 1 July 1885. Dyeing
Dyeing is the application of dyes or pigments on textile materials such as fibers, yarns, and fabrics with the goal of achieving color with desired color fastness. Dyeing is normally done in a special solution containing dyes and particular chemical material. Dye molecules are fixed to the fiber by absorption, diffusion, or bonding with temperature and time being key controlling factors. The bond between dye molecule and fiber may be strong or weak, depending on the dye used. Dyeing and printing are different applications; in printing, color is applied to a localized area with desired patterns. In dyeing, it is applied to the entire textile. The primary source of dye, historically, has been nature, with the dyes being extracted from animals or plants. ''Hvem er hvem?'' ( en, Who is Who?) was a Norwegian book series, presenting facts about notable persons from Norway. The first edition was issued in 1912, and the 14th edition came in 1994. King's Medal Of Merit
The King's Medal of Merit (Norwegian: ''Kongens fortjenstmedalje'') is a Norwegian award. It was instituted in 1908 to reward meritorious achievements in the fields of art, science, business, and public service. It is divided in two classes: gold and silver. The medal in gold is rewarded for extraordinary achievements of importance to the nation and society. The medal in silver may be awarded for lesser achievements. The medal is suspended from a ribbon in the colours of the Royal Standard of Norway. The medal in gold is ranked eighth in the ranking of Norwegian orders and medals. HÃ¥kon Stenstadvold
Håkon Stenstadvold (2 August 1912 – 7 October 1977) was a Norwegian painter, illustrator, journalist, art critic and politician for the Conservative Party of Norway, Conservative Party. Personal life He was born in Sarpsborg as a son of Christen Stenstadvold (1873–1952) and his wife Alfhild Pedersen (1887–1960). He was a brother of Karl Stenstadvold, and lived in Sandvika. He married Ingeborg Anvik in January 1943, and is the father of businessperson and politician Halvor Stenstadvold. Education and career He studied at the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts from 1931 to 1934 and at Academie Scandinave, Paris from 1934 to 1935. Karen Holtsmark
Karen Kristine Holtsmark (11 November 1907 – 7 March 1998) was a Norwegian painter. Biography Holtsmark was born at Ås in Akershus, Norway. She was a daughter of Gabriel Gabrielsen Holtsmark (1867–1954) and his wife Margrete Weisse (1871–1933). Her father was a physicist, and her mother was an educator. She was a maternal granddaughter of philologist Johan Peter Weisse, and a paternal granddaughter of agriculturalist and politician Bent Holtsmark. She was a niece of politicians Bernt and Torger Holtsmark, and a sister of professors Johan and Anne Holtsmark. She married Haakon R. Brækken in July 1936, but the marriage was dissolved. Career Holtsmark attended the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry from 1924 to 1927 and the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts from 1927 to 1930.
