Eloquens (Software)
Eloquens™ is a Text-To-Speech software, whose first version was released in 1993 by CSELT. It was the first commercial speech synthesis software able to speak Italian. Description It was the first commercial product of the research center CSELT in the field of voice technology: it was built with diphone-technology aimed to reach a high computational efficiency. As a result, the produced voice is still "robotic", but more natural than the previous generation voice implemented in MUSA by CSELT itself. In the past, ELOQUENS was applied to automatically read timetables in the Italian train stations and some telephone services provided by Telecom Italia, e.g. the automated address book service. Nowadays, it is released as freeware: it is nowadays typically used in spoken comments in many YouTube videos. CSELT
Centro Studi e Laboratori Telecomunicazioni (CSELT) was an Italian research center for telecommunication based in Torino, the biggest in Italy and one of the most important in Europe. It played a major role internationally especially in the standardization of protocols and technologies in telecommunication: perhaps the most widely well known is the standardization of mp3. Speech synthesis is the artificial production of human speech. A computer system used for this purpose is called a speech synthesizer, and can be implemented in software or Computer hardware, hardware products. A text-to-speech (TTS) system converts normal language text into speech; other systems render symbolic linguistic representations like phonetic transcriptions into speech. The reverse process is speech recognition. Synthesized speech can be created by Concatenative synthesis, concatenating pieces of recorded speech that are stored in a database. MUSA (MUltichannel Speaking Automaton)
MUSA (MUltichannel Speaking Automaton) was an early prototype of Speech Synthesis machine started in 1975. Description It consisted of a stand-alone computer hardware and a specialized software that implemented a diphone-synthesis technology. It was one of the first real-time TTS systems. It was able to read Italian in intellegibile robotic voice and also to sing managing up to 8 synthesis channels in parallel thanks to Linear predictive coding technology. In 1978 it was released, after the building of a working prototype, a 45" rpm audio disk containing some trial content of such synthesis, including the song ''" Fra Martino Campanaro"'' in "a cappella" (multiple voices) style, attached to some commercial reviews.
