Elina (Epirus)
Elina ( el, Ελίνα) was an ancient Greek, Hellenistic fortified town in the region of Epirus. The site is known locally as Dymokastro, west of the village of Perdika. Hammond discussed the site and identified it with ancient Elina. It overlooked the site of the Battle of Syvota between Corcyra (modern Corfu) and Corinth at the start of the Peloponnesian War and was the largest naval battle between Greek city states until that time and was one of the immediate catalysts for the war. The city flourished from the Late Classical to the Roman times and was named after the Thesprotean tribe of Elinoi that lived in the region. It is estimated that, during the period of its peak, the population of the city reached 6000. The walls are reinforced by rectangular towers and date to the 4th century BC. Elina Haavio-Mannila
Elina Haavio-Mannila (born 3 August 1933) is a Finnish social scientist and Professor ''Emerita'' of Sociology at the University of Helsinki where she served as the Docent of Sociology (1965–1971), Assistant Professor (1971–1992), and Professor (1992–1998). She is known for researching gender roles and gender in Finnish life. Much of the research in the latter field was done together with Osmo Kontula. In 1958, she became the first woman in Finland to earn the Doctor in Social Sciences degree. Early years and education Elina Haavio was born in Helsinki on 3 August 1933. Elina Nechayeva ( et, Elina Netšajeva; born 10 November 1991) is an Estonian soprano. She represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon, Portugal, with the song " La forza". Elina Vavailagi Nasaudrodro (born December 22, 1985, in Suva) is a Fijian judoka who competed in the women's lightweight category. She won a bronze medal in the 57-kg division at the 2004 Oceania Judo Championships in Noumea, New Caledonia, and represented her nation Fiji at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens at the age of eighteen. Early life and education Originally from Dakuni village on Beqa island, Nasaudrodro attended Lomary School, and later moved to Pacific Harbour. She trained with Sensei Yukiko Honda, as well as the national women's head coach, Takahiko Hasegawa of the Fiji Judo Association. Elina Emily Mottram, (1903–1996) was an England-born architect trained in Brisbane. She was Queensland’s first and longest practicing female architect, practicing and establishing her own business in Brisbane from 1924 to 1975. Mottram died at the age of 93 in 1996. Early life and education Elina Mottram was born in 1903 in Sheffield, England as the only child of Arthur Mottram, a building contractor and stonemason. Elina Kettunen (born 10 April 1981) is a Finnish former competitive figure skater. She is the 1999 Nebelhorn Trophy bronze medalist, the 2004 Finlandia Trophy bronze medalist, a three-time Nordic Figure Skating Championships, Nordic champion, and the 2001 Finnish Figure Skating Championships, Finnish national champion. She finished in the top fourteen at seven ISU Figure Skating Championships, ISU Championships.
