Electoral District Of Young
Young was an electoral district for the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales, named after and including the town of Young. It elected two members between 1880 and 1894 and one member from 1894 to 1904, when it was replaced by Burrangong. The sitting member George Burgess () successfully contested Burrangong. In 1920, with the introduction of proportional representation, Burrangong was absorbed by the three member district of Cootamundra. Proportional representation was abandoned in 1927 and Young was recreated. It was abolished in 1981 and the district was split with Young being absorbed by Burrinjuck while the towns of Cowra and Forbes ''Forbes'' () is an American business magazine owned by Integrated Whale Media Investments and the Forbes family. Clarrie Martin
Major Clarence Edward Martin (2 February 1900 – 5 September 1953) was an Australian politician and a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1930 until 1932 and from 1939 until his death in 1953. He was variously a member of the Australian Labor Party (NSW), the Industrial Labor Party and the Labor Party (ALP). He was the Attorney General of New South Wales from 1941 until 1953 and also held the position of Minister for Transport for six months prior to his death. Early life Martin was born in Ballarat, Victoria and was the son of a miner. He was educated at state schools in Broken Hill, New South Wales and was orphaned at an early age. He initially worked in the Broken Hill mines but continued his education privately. At age 17 he moved to Sydney, underwent teacher training and taught in state schools in rural NSW while continuing part-time studies in economics at the University of Sydney. Albert Reid
Albert David Reid, MC (25 July 1886 – 22 May 1962) was an Australian politician. Born in Murrumburrah, New South Wales, he was educated at state schools before becoming a farmer and grazier at Crowther. He sat on Murrumburrah Shire Council before serving in the military in 1914. He was awarded the Military Cross for gallantry at Beersheeba in October 1917. In 1927, he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as the Country Party member for Young. He was defeated in 1930 but re-elected in 1932. He was Minister for Agriculture 1938–1941. He was defeated at the 1941 state election by 660 votes. He served with the Australian forces during World War II from 1941 to 1943. George Burgess (Australian Politician)
George Arthur Burgess (2 November 1863 – 8 February 1941) was an Australian politician. He was born at Mara Creek to publican George Edward Burgess and Mary Grimley. He attended primary school until the age of twelve, after which he worked as a shearer and farmer in the Coonamble district. On 27 January 1896 he married Florence Clark, with whom he would have five children. An organiser and local secretary of the Australian Workers' Union, he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly in 1901 as the Labor member for Young. Young was abolished in 1904 and replaced by Burrangong which Burgess successfully contested in 1904. and remained on the Labor backbench until the conscription split of 1916, when, as a supporter of conscription, he followed Premier William Holman into the Nationalist Party.
