City Of Preston (Victoria)
The City of Preston was a local government area about north-northeast of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The city covered an area of , and existed from 1871 until 1994. History Preston's first involvement in local government was part of the Epping Road District in 1854, which also included Northcote. In 1870, the Epping District was amalgamated with the Merriang, Whittlesea, Morang and Woodstock Road Districts, to form a very large Darebin Shire. These entities mostly ended up in the Cities of Broadmeadows and Whittlesea. Preston was first incorporated as the Jika Jika Shire on 8 November 1871, which was renamed Preston on 11 September 1885. Merri Creek
The Merri Creek is a waterway in southern parts of Victoria, Australia, which flows through the northern suburbs of Northcote. It begins near Wallan north of Melbourne and flows south for 70 km until it joins the Yarra River at Dights Falls. The area where the creek meets the river was traditionally the location for large gatherings of the Wurundjeri people and is suspected to have been the location for one of the earliest land treaties in Australia between Indigenous Australians and European settlers. The creek was the site of heavy industrial use throughout much of the 20th century, being home to quarries, landfills and accepting waste runoff from neighbouring factories. This has degraded the riparian ecology of the creek leaving behind pollutants such as heavy metals and various greases. Yarra River

The Plenty River is a perennial river of the Port Phillip catchment, located in the north-eastern Greater Melbourne region of the Australian state of Victoria. Course and features The Plenty River rises in the forested slopes of Mount Disappointment, northwest of . Electoral District Of Northcote
The electoral district of Northcote is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It covers the suburbs of Alphington, Fairfield, Northcote, Thornbury, and part of Preston. It lies on the northern bank of the Yarra River between the Merri and Darebin creeks. The seat was created in 1927 as a replacement for Jika Jika, and has been a safe Labor seat for most of its existence. It has only been held by seven members. The seat's most historically prominent member is 34th Premier John Cain (senior). Upon Cain's death in 1957, he was succeeded by Frank Wilkes, who went on to become state Labor leader from 1977 to 1981. Former ABC newsreader Mary Delahunty was elected in a 1998 by-election. Henry Elisha Beard (1864 – 18 December 1910) was an Australian politician. Born in Victoria, he received a primary education before becoming a bricklayer and railway inspector, as well as a union official. In 1904 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the Labor member for Jika Jika, holding the seat until 1907. In 1910 he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the member for Batman, again representing the Labor Party. James Membrey
James George Membrey (23 March 1862 – 12 November 1940) was an Australian politician. He was born in Buninyong to storekeeper James Membrey and Mary Anne Hadley, but he grew up in Napoleons and Ballarat. He worked as a plasterer at Northcote and from 1891 was a valuer and collector for Northcote Town Council. On 27 April 1886 he married Elizabeth Pearse Carvosse, with whom he had five children. In 1907 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Jika Jika. Although he was a Liberal, he opposed Thomas Bent Sir Thomas Bent (7 December 1838 – 17 September 1909) was an Australian politician and the 22nd Premier of Victoria. The party was founded under Alfred Deakin's leadership as a merger of the Protectionist Party and Anti-Socialist Party, an event known as the Fusion.
