Henry Beard (politician)
Henry Elisha Beard (1864 – 18 December 1910) was an Australian politician. Born in Victoria, he received a primary education before becoming a bricklayer and railway inspector, as well as a union official. In 1904 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the Labor member for Jika Jika, holding the seat until 1907. In 1910 he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the member for Batman, again representing the Labor Party. Division Of Batman
The Division of Batman was an Australian Electoral Division in the state of Victoria. It took its name from John Batman, one of the founders of the city of Melbourne. The division was created in 1906, replacing the Division of Northern Melbourne, and was abolished in 2019 and replaced by the Division of Cooper. The division was located in Melbourne's northern suburbs. It covered an area of approximately from / in the north to in the south, with Merri Creek providing the vast majority of the western boundary and Darebin Creek, parts of Macleod and Plenty Road in Bundoora providing the eastern boundary. James Membrey
James George Membrey (23 March 1862 – 12 November 1940) was an Australian politician. He was born in Buninyong to storekeeper James Membrey and Mary Anne Hadley, but he grew up in Napoleons and Ballarat. He worked as a plasterer at Northcote and from 1891 was a valuer and collector for Northcote Town Council. On 27 April 1886 he married Elizabeth Pearse Carvosse, with whom he had five children. In 1907 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Jika Jika. Although he was a Liberal, he opposed Thomas Bent Sir Thomas Bent (7 December 1838 – 17 September 1909) was an Australian politician and the 22nd Premier of Victoria. Jabez Coon
Jabez Coon (1869 – 18 April 1935) was an Australian politician. Born in Maldon, Victoria, he received a primary education before becoming a goldminer and then a boot merchant in Melbourne. In 1906, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Protectionist member for the new seat of Batman. He held the seat until his defeat in 1910 by a Labor candidate. He was a member of the City of Collingwood council, and mayor from 1909 to 1910. He is the father-in-law of Gilbert Chandler, member of the Victorian Legislative Council and Minister for Agriculture in the Bolte Ministry from 1955 to 1973.
