Currumbin is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. The district lies in the south-east corner of the state, along the New South Wales border. The district takes in southern parts of the Gold Coast and much of its hinterland. It includes the suburbs of Currumbin, Coolangatta, Elanora and Tugun as well as the rural Currumbin Valley and Tallebudgera Valley. The electorate was first contested in 1986. Laura Jane Gerber (born 29 November 1984) is an Australian politician. She represents the Electoral district of Currumbin, seat of Currumbin in the Queensland Legislative Assembly for the Liberal National Party of Queensland, Liberal National Party. Early life Prior to her political career, Gerber was a Commonwealth prosecutor. She spent a period at the Redfern Legal Centre. Politics The seat of Currumbin became vacant due to the resignation of Jann Stuckey. Gerber was announced as the Liberal National Party candidate for Currumbin on 28 January 2020 by Leader of the Opposition Deb Frecklington. Elanora is a suburb of the City of Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. In the , Elanora had a population of 12,145 people. Geography Elanora is located between Tallebudgera Creek and Currumbin Creek, west-north-west of the coastal border town of Coolangatta and south-southeast of Brisbane, the state capital. Its local government area is the City of Gold Coast. Elanora is bounded by Tallebudgera Creek to the northwest, Pacific Motorway to the northeast and east, and Guineas Creek and Simpsons Roads to the southeast. Janet Anne Stuckey (born 21 January 1955) is an Australian politician who represented the electorate of Currumbin in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 2004 to 2020. She was first elected on 7 February 2004 as a member of the Liberal Party. She joined the newly formed Liberal National Party of Queensland in 2008 when the Liberal Party and the Nationals merged in Queensland. Before the 2012 election, she was the Shadow Minister for Tourism, Small Business and Manufacturing. She was the Shadow Minister for Small Business, Job Creation, Fair Trading and Industrial Relations and the Shadow Minister for Women. She was the Shadow Minister for Public Works and Information and Communication Technology between 2010 and 2011. The Liberal Party of Australia (Queensland Division), branded as Liberal Queensland, was the Queensland division of the Liberal Party of Australia until 2008. Trevor McDougall Coomber (born 13 June 1949) is a former Australian politician. He was born in Charleville to schoolteacher Laurence Edward Coomber and Sybil Harding, ''née'' Lightbody, a secretary. He was educated at public schools in Pelican, Lowmead and Rosedale and at high schools in Bundaberg and Mount Gravatt. In 1970 he graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Pharmacy, and began work as a pharmacist in Brisbane. On 8 April 1972 he married Roberta Anne Richardson, also a pharmacist; they had four children before their separation. Coomber moved to the Gold Coast in 1973 and to Palm Beach in 1974, where he was a member of the Beach Protection Authority of Queensland and patron of several community groups. Currumbin Valley is a rural locality in the City of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. It borders New South Wales. In the , Currumbin Valley had a population of 1,849 people. Geography Currumbin Valley is in the Gold Coast hinterland of South East Queensland bounded to the south by the Queensland border with New South Wales.
