Eldis Cobo Arteaga (2 September 1929 — 1991) was a Cuban chess International Master (IM) (1967), Cuban Chess Championship winner (1950), U.S. Open Chess Championship winner (1958). Biography From the early 1950s to the mid-1970s Eldis Cobo Arteaga was one of the leading Cuban chess players. He won the Cuban Chess Championship in 1950. He won the U.S. Open Chess Championship in 1958 in Rochester. San Miguel De Tucumán
San Miguel de Tucumán (; usually called simply Tucumán) is the capital and largest city of Tucumán Province, located in northern Argentina from Buenos Aires. The Pan American Team Chess Championship is an international team chess tournament open to national federations affiliated to FIDE in the Americas. It is organized by the Confederation of Chess for America (CCA), and the winner qualifies to participate at the next World Team Chess Championship. The 20th Chess Olympiad ( mk, 20. Шаховска олимпијада, ''20. Šahovska olimpijada''), organized by Fédération Internationale des Échecs, FIDE and comprising an open team tournament, as well as several other events designed to promote the game of chess, took place between September 18 and October 13, 1972, in Skopje, Yugoslavia (present-day Republic of Macedonia, Macedonia). Summary For the first time, the Soviet team only comprised 5 Grandmaster (chess), GMs and one International Master, IM (Savon). Since Bobby Fischer had beaten Spassky earlier in the year, the team wasn't led by the current world champion – also a first.
