Elang Darat
''Elang Darat'' (; Indonesian for ''Land Hawk'') is a 1941 film from the Dutch East Indies (present-day Indonesia) which was directed by Inoe Perbatasari and produced by The Teng Chun for Jacatra Film. A detective film, it follows a man who comes to a village to track the villainous bandit known only as "Elang Darat". Plot After a series of robberies led by a bandit known as "Elang Darat", the chief of Kresek village calls in a detective named Parlan (Astaman). While investigating the crimes, Parlan is attacked and knocked out by a blow to the head. The chief's daughter, Rukmini, nurses him back to health and the two begin falling in love. This leaves the chief's adopted son, Gunawi, in a fury, as Gunawi is in love with Rukmini as well. Parlan's investigation reveals that Gunawi is, in fact, his long-lost half brother. Inoe Perbatasari
Raden Inoe Perbatasari (1899 – 18 October 1954) was an Indonesian politician turned film director and actor. Perbatasari, who had a background in journalism and had previously led the dailies ''Oetoesan Indonesia'' and ''Bintang Timoer'', was politically active in the late 1920s as a member of the Indonesian National Party (), a native political party in the Dutch East Indies. By the 1930s, he was active in the Bolero touring troupe, under Andjar Asmara. When Andjar went to Java Industrial Film to become a director for The Teng Chun, Perbatasari was one of several Bolero members to join. They appeared in their first production, ''Kartinah'', in 1940. The film, which followed the love between a nurse and her superior, featured Perbatasari as Ratna Asmara's character's uncle. The following year saw Perbatasari active in three films. Misbach Yusa Biran (11 September 1933 – 11 April 2012) was an Indonesian writer, director and columnist who pioneered the Indonesian film archives. Sinematek Indonesia
Sinematek Indonesia, or Sinematek for short, is a film archive located in Jakarta. Established in 1975 by Misbach Yusa Biran and Asrul Sani, the archive was the first in Southeast Asia, and remains the only one in Indonesia. It is home to roughly 2,700 films, mostly Indonesian, and also houses numerous reference works. Since 2001 it has been underfunded. Description Sinematek is located in the Hajji Usmar Ismail Center, a five-story building located on Rasuna Said Street in Kuningan, South Jakarta, and managed by the Usmar Ismail Foundation; it has held this location since 1977. The Sinematek offices are on the fourth floor, while a library containing films and film history is located on the fifth floor; a storage area is found in the basement. ''Poetri Rimba'' (; Perfected Spelling ''Putri Rimba''; Indonesian for ''Jungle Princess'') is a 1941 film from the Dutch East Indies (present-day Indonesia) which was directed by Inoe Perbatasari and produced by The Teng Chun for Jacatra Film. A love story, it tells of a man who rescues a woman from a gang of thieves and escapes through the jungle. Plot Achmad and his group go hunting on an island. After they are separated, Achmad wanders through the island's dense jungles until he is ultimately captured by a gang of bandits under the warlord Kumis Panjang and his right-hand man Perbada. As Perbada prepares to burn Achmad alive, it is revealed that Achmad had once saved Kumis Panjang's daughter, Bidasari, from death; as a result, he is not executed. Although Bidasari is betrothed to Perbada, she and Achmad begin falling in love. In a rage, Perbada captures Kumis Panjang and Bidasari, who are eventually rescued by Achmad. The Teng Chun
The Teng Chun (; 18 June 1902 – 25 February 1977), also known by his Indonesian name Tahjar Ederis, was a Chinese Indonesian film producer. Born to a rich businessman, The became interested in film while still a youth. After a period as an exporter, in 1930 he established Cino Motion Picture to produce films in the Dutch East Indies. In a little over a decade he and his company had released at least 31 films, including some of the country's first talkies. Although he experienced a brief resurgence during the 1950s, after Indonesia became independent, he spent the last years of his life as an English teacher.
