Edward Fister
Edward J. Fister was born in Mauch Chunk (now Jim Thorpe) Pennsylvania on October 1, 1911. He died at home in New Jersey on February 8, 2003. He was a pioneer in the development of radar, worked on the electrification of the GG-1 (the world's fastest engine), and worked on the rocket and bomb proximity fuse. Life Edward Fister was born to William Franklin Fister and Hannah Dugan Fister. He was their only surviving child. After growing up in Atlantic City, he graduated from Villanova University in 1937 with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. He was awarded the Villanova Alumni Medal. He also was awarded the Westinghouse Science Award. His first job was with the Pennsylvania Railroad in Altoona, Pennsylvania on the electrification project to support the world's fastest engine, the GG-1. Jim Thorpe is a borough and the county seat of Carbon County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. It is part of Northeastern Pennsylvania. GG-1
The Pennsylvania Railroad GG1 is a class of streamlined electric locomotives built for the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR), in the northeastern United States. The class was known for its striking art deco shell, its ability to pull trains at up to 100 mph, and its long operating career of almost 50 years. Between 1934 and 1943, General Electric and the PRR's Altoona Works built 139 GG1s. The GG1 entered service with the PRR in 1935 and later ran on successor railroads Penn Central, Conrail, and Amtrak. The last GG1 was retired by New Jersey Transit in 1983. Pepco Holdings was a holding company incorporated in February 2001 for the purpose of effecting the acquisition of Conectiv Power Delivery by Potomac Electric Power Company (better known as "Pepco"). Fort Monmouth is a former installation of the Department of the Army in Monmouth County, New Jersey.
