Edmond T. Gréville
Edmond T. Gréville (born Edmond Gréville Thonger; 20 June 1906 – 26 May 1966) was a French film director and screenwriter. He was married to the actress Vanda Gréville. Career Gréville began his career as a film journalist and critic. In parallel with a few acting performances in some silent films and in the first talkie of René Clair, ''Under the Roofs of Paris, Sous les toits de Paris'' (1930), he directed his first short films. His first experience of directing had been on the shooting of Abel Gance's ''Napoléon (1927 film), Napoléon'' in 1927. He had then worked as an assistant director, notably on the English film ''Piccadilly (film), Piccadilly'', ''L'Arlésienne'' (directed by Jacques de Baroncelli), Augusto Genina's ''Miss Europe (1930 film), Miss Europe'' (with Louise Brooks) and Abel Gance's ''End of the World (1931 film), La Fin du Monde''. Carole Landis (born Frances Lillian Mary Ridste; January 1, 1919 – July 5, 1948) was an American actress and singer. She worked as a contract player for Twentieth Century-Fox in the 1940s. Her breakout role was as the female lead in the 1940 film ''One Million B.C.'' from United Artists. She was known as "The Ping Girl" and "The Chest" because of her curvy figure. Early life Landis was born on January 1, 1919, in Fairchild, Wisconsin, the youngest of five children of Clara (née Sentek), a Polish farmer's daughter, and Norwegian-American Alfred Ridste, a drifting railroad mechanic who abandoned the family after Landis's birth. Pierre Chenal (; 5 December 1904 – 23 December 1990) was a French director and screenwriter who flourished in the 1930s. He was married to Czech-born French film actress Florence Marly from 1937 to 1955. Work Chenal was best known for film noir thrillers such as the 1937 film '' L'Alibi'', where he worked with Erich von Stroheim and Louis Jouvet. In 1939 he made ''Le Dernier Tournant'', the first of many film treatments of James M. Cain's celebrated novel, '' The Postman Always Rings Twice''. Léonide Moguy (14 July 1899 – 21 April 1976) was a Ukrainian, French and Italian film director, screenwriter and film editor. Moguy was born Leonid Mohylevskyi () in Odesa, Russian Empire in 1899 in a Jewish family. He lived in Soviet Ukraine until 1929, in the United States in the 1940s, and in Italy from 1949 until his death. He was active in film between 1927 and 1961. His work has influenced American director Quentin Tarantino, who discovered him while writing the script for ''Inglourious Basterds'', and named a character after him in ''Django Unchained''. Career Mohylevskyi was born in Odesa in a family of a merchandise worker. During World War I, he was a soldier of the 51st Lithuanian infantry regiment of the Imperial Russian Army in Simferopol. Erich Oswald Hans Carl Maria von Stroheim (born Erich Oswald Stroheim; September 22, 1885 – May 12, 1957) was an Austrian-American director, actor and producer, most noted as a film star and avant-garde, visionary director of the silent era. His 1924 film ''Greed'' (an adaptation of Frank Norris's 1899 novel ''McTeague'') is considered one of the finest and most important films ever made.
