Eddyville–Blakesburg–Fremont Community School District (EBFCSD) is a rural public school district headquartered in Eddyville, Iowa. The district is within Mahaska, Monroe, and Wapello counties, with additional small sections in Davis and Keokuk counties. It serves Eddyville, Blakesburg, Fremont, Chillicothe, and Kirkville. History It was formed on July 1, 2012, by the merger of the Fremont Community School District and the Eddyville–Blakesburg Community School District. On Tuesday, September 13, 2011, the merger was approved in a referendum, with the E-B district voters doing so on a 335–86 basis and the Fremont voters doing so on a 91–60 basis. As part of the merger plans, the pre-merger E-B and Fremont boards were to, for a period, continue to meet while a newly selected combined EBF board was to already begin business. Eddyville, Iowa
Eddyville is a city in Mahaska, Monroe, and Wapello counties in the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 970 at the time of the 2020 census. History ''Circa'' 1839, a Sauk village was established on this site following the end of the Black Hawk War. The village was referred to by the name of its chief, Chief Hard Fish, or Wish-e-co-ma-que. History of Iowa From the Earliest Times to the Beginning of the Twentieth Century Volume 3 In 1840 or 1841, before Iowa became a state, Jabish P. Eddy was permitted to open a trading post in Hard Fish's village. It was a place for trade with the Indians and for pioneers to provision and ford the Des Moines River. In 1842, the area was obtained as part of the New Purchase and the Sauk moved up river. J.P. Eddy became the Indian agent for the area and set aside some of his land for the eponymously named town. Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union
The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) is the governing body for girls' junior and senior high school sports in the U.S. state of Iowa. The association promotes and regulates interscholastic sports among its member schools. Though its counterpart for boys sports in Iowa, the Iowa High School Athletic Association, is a full-time member of the National Federation of State High School Associations, the IGHSAU is only an affiliate member.
