Eddie Smart
Edward Charles Smart (23 August 1946 – 6 February 2000) was a Welsh cyclist and coach from Cardiff, Wales. He represented Wales at the 1966 Commonwealth Games in Kingston, Jamaica (formally the Empire Games), in the scratch race, kilo, sprint, pursuit and road race. He ran a garage on Maindy Road, opposite the cycle track. Smart coached young riders and was the Welsh Cycling Union's track co-ordinator and member of the Maindy track league committee Steve Jones and Eddie Smart were helpers at the Junior Tour of Wales. They died in a car accident on the M4 in Berkshire. John Richards, the race's organizer a shield to them for the best Welsh rider. It is awarded annually at the Junior Tour of Wales. The Eddie Smart Memorial Fund was set up to refurbish the track. Berkshire
Berkshire ( ; in the 17th century sometimes spelt phonetically as Barkeshire; abbreviated Berks.) is a historic county in South East England. 1966 Commonwealth Games
The 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games were held in Kingston, Jamaica, from 4 to 13 August 1966. This was the first time that the Games had been held outside the so-called White Dominions. They were followed by the 1966 Commonwealth Paraplegic Games for wheelchair athletes. Jamaica remains the only host nation of a Commonwealth Games that did not win at least one gold medal in its own games. Kingston, Jamaica
Kingston is the capital and largest city of Jamaica, located on the southeastern coast of the island. It faces a natural harbour protected by the Palisadoes, a long sand spit which connects the town of Port Royal and the Norman Manley International Airport to the rest of the island. Junior Tour Of Wales
The Junior Tour of Wales is an annual cycle race for junior male riders, held around Brynmawr, Blaenau Gwent, Wales. First held in 1981, the race is the final round of the British Cycling Junior Road Series – and as such attracts the best junior racing cyclists from across the UK, as well as elite international junior teams from across Europe and beyond. From 1981 until 1993 the race consisted of three stages held over two days. In 1993 it was expanded to three days and held on the August Bank Holiday for the first time. In 2017 it switched to a four-day format. In recent years the race's final stage has finished on the Tumble: this climb often decides the winner of the race. M4 Motorway
The M4, originally the London-South Wales Motorway, is a motorway in the United Kingdom running from west London to southwest Wales. The English section to the Severn Bridge was constructed between 1961 and 1971; the Welsh element was largely complete by 1980, though a non-motorway section around Briton Ferry bridge remained until 1993. The Commonwealth Games, often referred to as the Friendly Games or simply the Comm Games, are a quadrennial international multi-sport event among athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. The event was first held in 1930, and, with the exception of 1942 and 1946 (cancelled due to World War II), have successively run every four years since.
