Eboli
Eboli ( Ebolitano: ) is a town and ''comune'' of Campania, southern Italy, in the province of Salerno. An agricultural centre, Eboli is known mainly for olive oil and for its dairy products, among which the famous buffalo mozzarella from the area. History Archaeological excavations have shown that the Eboli area has been inhabited since the Copper and Bronze Ages. Also attested (starting from the 5th century BC) was the presence of the so-called Villanovan civilization. The ancient ''Eburum'' was a Lucanian city, mentioned by Pliny the Elder, not far away from the Campanian border. It laid above the Via Popilia, which followed the line taken by the modern railway. Battipaglia–Metaponto Railway
The Battipaglia–Metaponto railway is an Italian long railway line, that connects Rome, Naples and Battipaglia with Potenza, Metaponto and Taranto. It is a commonly used trans-apennine linkage. History The line was opened in stages between 1863 and 1880. In 1944 the deadliest accident in Italian railway history, the 8017 convoy Battipaglia-Potenza, happened on this line with over 500 victims. Upgrades Between 1986 and 1993 the railway was closed to allow for major works to upgrade the line, during which it was electrified. Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) is the Italian railway infrastructure manager, subsidiary of Ferrovie dello Stato (FS), a state-owned holding company. RFI is the owner of Italy's railway network, it provides signalling, maintenance and other services for the railway network. It also operates train ferries between the Italian Peninsula and Sicily.
