Eastern Creek is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Eastern Creek is located west of the Sydney central business district, in the Blacktown local government area and is part of the Greater Western Sydney region. Eastern Creek is west of the Prospect Reservoir and is most notable for containing Sydney Motorsport Park (previously known as Eastern Creek Raceway), the Western Sydney International Dragway, and the former site of Wonderland Sydney amusement park. History The origin of the suburb's name lies in the fact the eastern branch of South Creek became known as Eastern Creek. The village that then grew where the road crossed the creek became known as Eastern Creek. Population In the 2016 Census, there were 827 people in Eastern Creek. 62.7% of people were born in Australia and 64.3% of people spoke only English at home. Electoral District Of Prospect
Prospect is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. An urban electorate in western Sydney, it is centred on the suburb of Prospect from which it takes its name. It also includes the suburbs of Arndell Park, Bossley Park, Bungarribee, Girraween, Huntingwood, Pemulwuy, Prairiewood, Wetherill Park, as well as parts of Blacktown, Eastern Creek, Greystanes, Pendle Hill and Smithfield. Prospect is represented by Hugh McDermott of the Labor Party. Prospect was created as a result of the 2013 redistribution and largely replaced the abolished electorate of Smithfield. Light Horse Interchange
The Light Horse Interchange is a motorway interchange located in Eastern Creek, Sydney, Australia at the junction of the M4 and M7 motorways. The interchange is the largest in the southern hemisphere and was opened to traffic in December 2005. The interchange was named in honour of the Australian Light Horse Brigades of World War I, who trained at the Wallgrove Army camp that was located near the site of the interchange prior to deploying overseas. Design and construction In response to a population boom in Sydney's western suburbs, the Government of New South Wales' Sydney Orbital Roads Strategy identified the need for a limited access north-south link. Wonderland Sydney
Wonderland Sydney (originally known as Australia's Wonderland), was an amusement park in Eastern Creek, Sydney, Australia. Officially opened in December 1985 by the Premier of New South Wales, Neville Wran, the park was the largest in the southern hemisphere. Western Sydney International Dragway
Sydney Dragway, also known as WSID for its former name, Western Sydney International Dragway, is a $30 million, purpose built quarter mile drag racing facility that opened in February, 2004. WSID is based on international specifications and combines the best in competitor, spectator and corporate facilities. It is located next to Sydney Motorsport Park and is sanctioned by the International Hot Rod Association following a court settlement on 2 February 2022. Prospect Reservoir
The Prospect Reservoir is a heritage-listed potable water supply and storage reservoir created by the Prospect Dam, across the Prospect Creek located in the Western Sydney suburb of Prospect, in New South Wales, Australia. The eastern bounds of the reservoir are a recreational area and the western periphery are within the bounds of Western Sydney Parklands. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 18 November 1999. Prospect Reservoir is Sydney's largest reservoir and stores water conveyed from Warragamba Dam, the Upper Nepean Dams (Cataract, Cordeaux, Avon and Nepean) and if necessary, from the Shoalhaven Scheme, for supplying the larger component of the water distribution system of the Sydney metropolis.
