The East Torrens Football Association (ETFA) was an Australian rules football competition based in the eastern and north-eastern suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia until it merged with the North Adelaide District Football Association to form the Norwood-North Football Association at the end of the 1968 season. It was formed in 1916 for the purpose of “fostering junior football in the Norwood district." Australian Rules Football
Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. There are rules on how the ball can be handled; for example, players running with the ball must intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground. Throwing the ball is not allowed, and players must not get caught holding the ball. Hectorville Football Club
Hectorville is a small suburb of Adelaide in the City of Campbelltown, South Australia, City of Campbelltown. It is one of eight suburbs within the City of Campbelltown (South Australia), City of Campbelltown. The public primary school, East Torrens Primary and Catholic primary school, St Joseph's School, Hectorville, is located within the suburb. History The suburb was laid out by P. B. Coglin in 1855 on land he owned, and named for John Hector (c. 1788 – 31 July 1863), accountant of the Savings Bank of South Australia. The first house in Hectorville was built by Price Maurice in 1849 next to Fourth Creek. The land was sold and became a suburb in 1855. On 29 April 2011, Hectorville was the scene of the 2011 Hectorville siege in which a gunman shot dead three members of a family, as well as wounding two police officers, one critically. Tea Tree Gully Football Club
The Tea Tree Gully District Football Club is an Australian rules football club located in Banksia Park, South Australia. Tea Tree Gully currently plays in the Adelaide Footy League, formerly known as the "South Australian Amateur Football League" (SAAFL). History The club was originally part of " Modbury F.C." in 1862, but it soon split apart from them to form their own institution. Tea Tree played its first game against the "Adelaidians" in a paddock near Modbury on 30 August 1862. It ended when the "Adelaidians" scored their second goal and won the game. The club's original home was at Memorial Oval, operating out of a tin shed. These relatively primitive facilities prevailed until its current home at Pertaringa Oval was opened in 1964. The Salisbury Football Club, nicknamed the ''Magpies'', is an Australian rules football club based in the northern suburb of Salisbury, South Australia and plays its home games at Salisbury Oval. History The history of football being played in the Salisbury area can date back to the 1870 with a record between a match between two teams from Gawler and a combined team between players from the suburbs of Salisbury and Woodville. The first recorded official match between the Salisbury team and an opponent was on 30 July 1880 against Gawler Albions. The Modbury Football Club (nicknamed the ''Hawks'') is an Australian rules football club based in Modbury, a suburb of Adelaide in South Australia. Formed in 1862, the Modbury Football Club is the oldest extant football club in South Australia and the sixth oldest football club of any code in Australia. The Modbury Hawks currently field 30 teams. Senior teams compete in the South Australian Amateur Football League and junior teams in the North Eastern Metropolitan Junior Football League. Kersbrook Football Club
Kersbrook (formerly Maidstone) is a town near Adelaide, South Australia. It is located in the Adelaide Hills Council local government area. At the 2006 census, Kersbrook had a population of 367. History The first settlers established farms in the Kersbrook area in the early 1831s due to its relatively gentle slopes. John Bowden, manager of the South Australian Company's dairy farm at Hackney, bought the section 6146, Hundred of Para Wirra, and named it ''Kersbrook'' after the Cornish farm where he was born. By 1844, Bowden was recorded as having "800 sheep, 62 cattle, one horse, 13 pigs, of wheat, eight acres of barley, plots of oats, maize and potatoes, and a fruit garden".
