EES (rapper)
Eric Sell, better known as EES (also: eesy-ees/EeS/EeS, "Easy Eric Sell"), is a German Namibian Kwaito artist and rapper. Sell was born in Windhoek on 5 October 1983. He lives both in Windhoek, Namibia's capital, and Cologne, Germany. His texts are written in a mixture of Afrikaans and English. He also makes frequent use of Namlish and Namibian German (''Südwesterdeutsch''), the German dialect spoken in Namibia, and he popularised the term ''Nam-Slang'' for it. Windhoek
Windhoek (, , ) is the capital and largest city of Namibia. It is located in central Namibia in the Khomas Highland plateau area, at around above sea level, almost exactly at the country's geographical centre. Kwaito Musicians
Kwaito is a music genre that emerged in Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa, during the 1990s. It is a variant of house music that features the use of African sounds and samples. Kwaito songs occur at a slower tempo range than other styles of house music and Kwaito often contains catchy melodic and percussive loop samples, deep bass lines, and vocals. Despite its similarities to hip hop music, Kwaito has a distinctive manner in which the lyrics are sung, rapped and shouted. Etymology The word ''kwaito'' is an Isicamtho term from the Gauteng townships and encompasses styles that range from guz, d'gong, and isgubhu to swaito. Mandoza
Mduduzi Edmund Tshabalala (17 January 1978 – 18 September 2016), also known as Mandoza, was a South African kwaito recording artist. He was known for his contributions to the Kwaito genre and his numerous hit singles, including "Nkalakatha", Tornado, "Sgelekeqe", "Ngalabesi", "Godoba", "Tsotsi Yase Zola" and "Indoda", which topped the charts in South Africa and all over the African continent. His second album ''Nkalakatha'', released in 2000, became the biggest selling album of his career, selling 350 000 units. Early life Mandoza was born in 1978 in Zola, a township in Soweto, where he lived with his mother, his grandparents and two sisters. He never knew his father, his mother claiming that he was murdered the same year Mandoza was born. Namibian Annual Music Awards
The Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMA) ceremony was the biggest awards ceremony in Namibia. It was established in 2011 by MTC Namibia and the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC). They would award a NAMA trophy to musicians in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the music industry of Namibia. Along with the trophy, musicians receive sponsorships, endorsement deals and cash prizes. The NAMAs were usually held in the capital Windhoek. It was broadcast live on DStv on an NBC channel. The show had international music judges, hosts and artists. The first NAMAs took place in May 2011 and the overall winners were Jericho (Best Male Artist) and Gal Level (Best Female Artist). The Namibian Music Awards (NMA), is a Namibian award show that annually honors established recording artists. The award was established in 2006 in order to create and provide a suitable musical entertainment and promotional platform for Namibian musicians and music producers. Objectives NMA's main objective is to award the various musicians nominated by the public and the media under the different supplied categories fairly so that each unique artist's talent is recognized and appreciated. Namlish
Namlish (a portmanteau of the words Namibian and English) is a form of English spoken in Namibia. The term was first recorded in 1991. English is the country's official language since independence in 1990. Because it is the second or third language for the majority of the Namibians, local usage can vary significantly from usage elsewhere in the English-speaking world. Namibian English, or Namlish, shares many similarities with South African English, having been influenced both by Afrikaans and indigenous African languages. Examples of Namlish Vocabulary Expressions Literal translations Namlish comes from literal translations, mostly from Oshiwambo, Kavango languages and Afrikaans, but occasionally from Damara, Herero or other tribal languages.
