Eyob Faniel
Eyob Faniel (born 26 November 1992) is an Eritrean-born Italian long-distance runner who won a silver medal at the 2018 Mediterranean Games. He is the national record holder in the marathon with a time of 2:07:19, set on 23 February 2020, at the 2020 Seville Marathon. He finished 20th at the 2020 Summer Olympics, in the Marathon. Biography Born in Eritrea, Faniel came to Italy in 2004, he was naturalized in 2015 at 23. In 2017, he anecdotally won the Venice Marathon when its top runners were mistakenly diverted from the main course by the marathon's staff. In 2019, he competed in the men's marathon at the 2019 World Athletics Championships held in Doha, Qatar. He finished in 15th place. In November 2021, he finished in 3nd place in the 2021 New York City Marathon with a time of 2:09:52. Ruggero Pertile
Ruggero Pertile (born 8 August 1974 in Camposampiero) is an Italian long-distance runner who specialises in marathon running. He was the winner of the 2004 Rome City Marathon and has represented Italy internationally at three World Championships in Athletics and two Olympic Games. Biography He was fourth in the marathon at the 2010 European Athletics Championships, missing out on the podium after struggling with cramping in the final stages of the race. He took a surprise victory at the 2010 Turin Marathon, completing the race in a time of 2:10:58 in rainy conditions. Half Marathon
A half marathon is a road running event of —half the distance of a marathon. 2021 New York City Marathon
The 2021 New York City Marathon, the 50th running of that city's premier long-distance race, was held on November 7, 2021. Around 30,000 people ran in the event, of whom 25,020 finished. The race followed its traditional route, which passes through all five boroughs of New York City. The elite races were won by Albert Korir and Peres Jepchirchir, both of Kenya, in 2:08:22 and 2:22:39 respectively; both athletes received $100,000 for winning their events. The wheelchair races were won by Marcel Hug of Switzerland and Madison de Rozario of Australia, in 1:31:24 and 1:51:01 respectively; both athletes received $25,000 for winning their events. 2019 World Athletics Championships
The 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships () was the seventeenth edition of the biennial, global athletics competition organised by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), since renamed World Athletics. 2019 World Athletics Championships – Men's Marathon
The men's marathon was one of the road events at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar. Due to the heat in Doha, the race was scheduled to begin at 23:59 on 5 October 2019. Even with the unusual timing, high temperatures were expected to provide difficult conditions for running, but in the end temperatures dropped to around and 50% humidity. The race was won by Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia in , followed four seconds behind by his compatriot Mosinet Geremew. Amos Kipruto of Kenya was third in 2:10:51. The marathon was held on Doha Corniche, and consisted of six laps of a roughly floodlit course. Derlis Ayala of Paraguay broke away from the start, and led the race until he was caught by a pack consisting of Desisa, Geremew, Geoffrey Kirui, Kipruto, Stephen Mokoka and Zersenay Tadese just before the halfway mark.
