Channel 5 (Chinese: 五頻道) is a free-to-air, English-language television channel in Singapore. Owned by state broadcaster Mediacorp, it broadcasts general entertainment, news, and sports programming. The channel's logo is a big white number 5 superimposed on a blue bar. History At 6:00pm SGT on 15 February 1963, Channel 5 was launched as its first pilot television service as "TV Singapura". The channel operated 1-hour and 40-minutes monochrome service on black and white during its daily test transmissions from 6:00pm to 7:40pm SGT. After the image of the state flag and the playing of the national anthem, ''Majulah Singapura'', Minister for Culture, S. Rajaratnam, became the first person to appear on Singapore Television, announcing that "Tonight might well mark the start of a social and cultural revolution in our lives." The New Paper
''The New Paper'' is a Singaporean newspaper in tabloid form. It was originally published as a "noon paper", but since 2016 has been published daily as a freesheet in the morning from 7 a.m. onwards. History First launched on 26 July 1988, by Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), it had an average daily circulation of 101,600 in August 2010, according to SPH. In 1991, the paper organised the New Paper Big Walk, a mass-participation walking event. The event came to be held annually in Singapore. It holds the official Guinness World Record as world's largest walk when a record-breaking 77,500 participants joined on 21 May 2000. Hossan Leong
Hossan Leong (; born 10 July 1969) is a Singaporean stage and screen actor, television host, radio deejay and comedian. Personal life He was born 10 July 1969 in Singapore, Leong was educated at Anglo-Chinese School and Anglo-Chinese Junior College and studied electronics at the French-Singapore Institute, which was since transferred in February 1993 and currently part of Nanyang Polytechnic. Career Leong started his showbiz career as a television actor and starred in several TCS English and Chinese language dramas during the 1990s before diversifying into theatre and comedy. Having learned French while studying at the French-Singapore Institute, he is fluent in the language and worked with the Alliance française for some time. In 2010 he was conferred the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture. Besides acting, Leong was also a radio deejay with Gold 90.5FM.
