Exit English
''Exit English'' is the second album by the American melodic hardcore band Strike Anywhere, released in 2003. Background Strike Anywhere released their debut studio album '' Change Is a Sound'' in August 2001. In between various tours supporting it, the members had alternative jobs: bassist Garth Petrie was a mover; drummer Eric Kane cooked in different cafés; guitarist Matt Smith ran a recording studio in his basement; guitarist Matt Sherwood served as an electrical engineer; and vocalist Thomas Barnett worked in markets and health food stores. In March 2003, the band toured the US and Canada, with support from the Explosion, Majority Rule, and the Exit. The following month, the band began recording their next album with producer Brian McTernan at Salad Days in Maryland. Barnett said McTernan was "really hard" on the band, with Barnett doing his vocals for eight hours a day, "and none of it was good enough" for him. Strike Anywhere
Strike Anywhere is an American punk rock band from Richmond, Virginia. Formed in 1999 after the demise of frontman Thomas Barnett's previous band, Inquisition, they took their name from the Inquisition song "Strike Anywhere". Their music is characterized by fast tempos, catchy melodies, and emotionally charged vocals delivered via shouting and singing. The band received an increased amount of attention after their music appeared in three Tony Hawk video games: ''Tony Hawk's Underground'' in 2003 ("Refusal"), ''Tony Hawk's American Wasteland'' in 2005 ("Question the Answer"), and ''Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam'' in 2006 ("The Promise"). The Masque Of Anarchy
''The Masque of Anarchy'' (or ''The Mask of Anarchy'') is a British political poem written in 1819 (see 1819 in poetry) by Percy Bysshe Shelley following the Peterloo Massacre of that year. In his call for freedom, it is perhaps the first modern statement of the principle of nonviolent resistance. The poem was not published during Shelley's lifetime and did not appear in print until 1832 (see 1832 in poetry), when published by Edward Moxon in London with a preface by Leigh Hunt. Shelley had sent the manuscript in 1819 for publication in '' The Examiner''. Hunt withheld it from publication because he "thought that the public at large had not become sufficiently discerning to do justice to the sincerity and kind-heartedness of the spirit that walked in this flaming robe of verse". 1999 Seattle WTO Protests
The 1999 Seattle WTO protests, sometimes referred to as the Battle of Seattle, were a series of protests surrounding the WTO Ministerial Conference of 1999, when members of the World Trade Organization (WTO) convened at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center in Seattle, Washington on November 30, 1999. The Conference was to be the launch of a new millennial round of trade negotiations. The negotiations were quickly overshadowed by massive street protests outside the hotels and the Washington State Convention and Trade Center. The protests were nicknamed "N30", akin to J18 and similar mobilizations, and were deemed controversial by the media. The large scale of the demonstrations, estimated at no fewer than 40,000 protesters, dwarfed any previous demonstration in the United States against a world meeting of any of the organizations generally associated with economic globalization, such as the WTO, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank. New Mexican Disaster Squad
New Mexican Disaster Squad was an American hardcore punk band. It was formed in Orlando, Florida in 1999. Their last show was at the Fest 7 on November 1, 2008, though the band did reunite to play Radfest in North Carolina, May 2010. The band's MySpace page describes their sound as "harken ngback to the glory days of American hardcore with equal influences from the east and west coasts". They released four full-length albums, the last, ''Don't Believe'' (2006), on Jade Tree Records. On December 28, 2008, a posting on the band's MySpace page announced that Goldfarb, Minino, and Johnson had joined with Tony Foresta, the vocalist from Municipal Waste, to form a band called No Friends. The Bouncing Souls
The Bouncing Souls are an American punk band from New Brunswick, New Jersey, formed in 1989. By the time of their acknowledgment by the national punk rock scene, they had reignited a "pogo" element to New Jersey punk rock by playing fast light-hearted songs, a model followed by various other local bands. History The four original members grew up in Basking Ridge, New Jersey and played in smaller bands while attending Ridge High School. Although they decided to forgo college, they made the decision to move to a college town; New Brunswick, NJ, which is the home of Rutgers University. From Ashes Rise
From Ashes Rise is an American neo-crust band, formed in Nashville, Tennessee, in the mid-1990s. They helped define the gloom-heavy sound attributed to groups like His Hero is Gone and Tragedy by combining a dynamic, eerie open chord dissonance with a down-tuned power-chord-laden heaviness. Along with Tragedy, the group relocated to Portland, Oregon, in the early 2000s. History In early 1997, Dave Atchison and Brad Boatright formed the band, along with guitarist Jeff Andrews, bassist Jason Piercey, and vocalist Marshall Perdue. This initial lineup would be short lived, with guitarist John Wilkerson replacing Andrews. AFI (abbreviation for A Fire Inside) is an American rock band from Ukiah, California, formed in 1991. Since 1998, it consists of lead vocalist Davey Havok, drummer and backing vocalist Adam Carson, bassist, backing vocalist and keyboardist Hunter Burgan, and guitarist, backing vocalist and keyboardist Jade Puget. Havok and Carson are the sole remaining original members. ''AMP'' was an American music magazine founded in 2003, by Brett Matthews. It featured interviews, album and live reviews and band journals. Online, it featured exclusive videos and audio, as well as video game reviews. It ceased publication in 2013. About ''AMP'' was published monthly by American Music Press, with a print run of 80,000 copies. It focused primarily on punk, hardcore and metal music.
