Eves of Destruction is a women's flat track roller derby league in Victoria, British Columbia. The league is organized as a non-profit organization. Eves of Destruction is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History and organization Established in 2006 as Dead City Rollergirls, the league was the first women's flat track league in British Columbia. Eves of Destruction was founded on the motto of "By the Skaters, For the Skaters" and is a dedicated skater-run organization. Members compete in a yearly season at home, and also travel to other cities in Canada and the US to play competitive flat track roller derby. Junior roller derby is the sport of roller derby, modified for children and adolescents up to 18 years of age. The Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) is the international governing body for the sport of women's flat track roller derby, and association of leagues around the world. The organization was founded in April 2004 as the United Leagues Coalition (ULC), but was renamed in November 2005. Roller derby is a roller skating contact sport played by two teams of fifteen members. Roller derby is played by approximately 1,250 amateur leagues worldwide, mostly in the United States. Game play consists of a series of short scrimmages (jams) in which both teams designate a jammer (who uniquely wears a star on the helmet) and four blockers to skate counter-clockwise around a track. Women's Flat Track Derby Association Rankings
Rankings for the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) are used to determine placement in overall standings (rather than win–loss record) and also to determine seedings at WFTDA Playoffs. Achieving high rankings is also a goal for teams aiming to increase their stature in the organization. Each year at the end of June, teams are seeded into Division 1 and Division 2 playoff tournaments. Historically, the top 40 teams in the WFTDA as of June 30 were eligible for Division 1 tournaments that season, and the teams ranked 41–60 were eligible for Division 2 tournaments. For 2017, the Division 1 cutoff was reduced to the top 36 teams, with the next 16 teams qualifying for Division 2 Playoffs. The International Women's Flat Track Derby Association Championships ("WFTDA Championships" or "Champs" for short) are the leading competition for roller derby leagues.
