Eva Brag
Eva Brag (1829–1913) was a Swedish journalist, writer and poet. She was born to Jonas Brag, professor at the Lund University. She was given a high education at home and studied Latin, French and English and visited Great Britain and France. She was not allowed to study at the university, because university studies were closed to women until 1870, which affected her badly. She was employed as a journalist at '' Göteborgsposten'' in 1864–1865 and ''Göteborgs Handels- och Sjöfartstidning'' in 1865–1889, where she wrote political articles and literary reviews and functioned as temporary chief editor during the absence of the regular chief editor, the progressive Sven Adolf Hedlund. Initially her media career was almost unique at the time and made her one of the first in the pioneer generation of women journalists in Swedish media. She always wrote under pseudonym. Sven Adolf Hedlund (24 February 1821 – 16 September 1900), also known as S. A. Hedlund, was a Swedish newspaper publisher and politician. He was editor-in-chief of ''Göteborgs Handels- och sjöfartstidning'' and served as a Member of the Parliament of Sweden. Biography Sven Adolf Hedlund was born on the island of Eldgarn, now in Ekerö Municipality at Mälaren, Stockholm County, Sweden, He was the son of the farmer Carl Adolf Hedlund and his wife Regina ( née Björner). He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1845 from Uppsala University. In 1847 he was employed at the Swedish Ministry of Education and at the Swedish National Library in Stockholm. Gothenburg Women's Association ( sv, Göteborgs Kvinnoförening) was the first women's organisation active in Gothenburg, Sweden's second largest city. It was active from 1884 to 1891. It published the radical magazine '' Framåt'' (Forward). Göteborgs Kvinnoförening was founded 30 October 1884 by a group of liberal upper-class women in Gothenburg under the leadership of Mathilda Hedlund (chairperson 1884–88), the daughter of the radical liberal publicist Sven Adolf Hedlund, and had 89 members during its first year.
