Eurovision Young Dancers 1993
The Eurovision Young Dancers 1993 was the fifth edition of the Eurovision Young Dancers, held at the Dance House in Stockholm, Sweden on 15 June 1993. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Sveriges Television (SVT), dancers from eight countries participated in the televised final. A total of fifteen countries took part in the competition. , , and made their début with returning and , , , and deciding not to participate. As in 1989 and 1991, a semi-final was held to choose the finalists. The semi-final took place 2 days before the final (13 June 1993). The jury chose the finalists and top 3 performances. The prizes were presented by Princess Christina, the youngest sister of Carl XVI Gustaf, King of Sweden. The non-qualified countries were Belgium, Cyprus, Finland, Italy, Norway, Portugal and Slovenia. Anneli Alhanko
Anneli Elisabeth Alhanko Skoglund (born 11 December 1953 in Bogotá, Colombia) is a Swedish ballet dancer and actress. She is the daughter of the Finnish consul Erkki Alhanko, who was stationed in Colombia when she was born. From 1971 to 1997 she was employed by the Royal Swedish Ballet in Stockholm, Sweden. She became one of the ballet company's premier prima ballerinas. She is one of twelve in the world with the title prima ballerina assoluta. Alhanko is also one of the founders of the dance school Base 23 which opened in Stockholm January 2010. Modern Dance
Modern dance is a broad genre of western concert or theatrical dance which included dance styles such as ballet, folk, ethnic, religious, and social dancing; and primarily arose out of Europe and the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It was considered to have been developed as a rejection of, or rebellion against, classical ballet, and also a way to express social concerns like socioeconomic and cultural factors. In the late 19th century, modern dance artists such as Isadora Duncan, Maud Allan, and Loie Fuller were pioneering new forms and practices in what is now called aesthetic or free dance. These dancers disregarded ballet's strict movement vocabulary (the particular, limited set of movements that were considered proper to ballet) and stopped wearing corsets and pointe shoes in the search for greater freedom of movement. DR (), officially the Danish Broadcasting Corporation in English, is a Danish public-service radio and television broadcasting company. Founded in 1925 as a public-service organization, it is Denmark's oldest and largest electronic media enterprise. DR is a founding member of the European Broadcasting Union. Jorma Uotinen
Jorma Leo Kalevi Uotinen (born 28 June 1950 in Pori) is a Finnish dancer, singer and choreographer. As a dancer and choreographer, Uotinen has worked both in many dance groups, both in and outside of Finland, since 1970. He has received many Finnish and international awards and honours in his career. He was a dancer with the Finnish National Ballet 1970–1976, and in 1976 he was invited by director Carolyn Carlson to join the Groupe de recherche Theatrales at l'Opera de Paris, where he worked until 1980. He has worked as artistic director in the Helsinki City Theatre dance group (1987–1990), at the Finnish National Ballet (1992–2001) and the Kuopio Dance Festival (2000–). Elisabetta Terabust
Elisabetta Terabust (5 August 1946 – 5 February 2018) was an Italian ballerina and company director. She trained at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma and worked for the London Festival Ballet (now the English National Ballet) and the Ballet National de Marseille. Terabust served as was director of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, La Scala, MaggioDanza of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and of the Corps de ballet at the Teatro di San Carlo at various points between 1990 and 2009. The primary ballet rehearsal room at the Teatro dell'Opera Di Roma Dancing School was renamed for her. Elsa-Marianne Von Rosen
Elsa-Marianne von Rosen (21 April 1924 – 7 September 2014) was a Swedish ballet dancer, choreographer and actress. She performed all over Scandinavia. She acted between 1939 and 1970. She appeared in the television series '' Tales of Hans Anderson''. In 1984, she was given the Royal Medal of Merit Litteris et Artibus. She also directed ballet plays outside of Scandinavia, in Monaco, the United States, the United Kingdom and Russia. She was the head of ballet at the Stora Teatern in Gothenburg between 1970 and 1976 and also of Malmöbaletten between 1980 and 1987. Von Rosen was born in Stockholm. Pierre Lacotte
Pierre Lacotte (born 4 April 1932) is a French ballet dancer and choreographer who specialised in the reconstruction of lost choreographies of romantic ballets. His mother was an affirmed musician and he manifested very early his interest for dance. After an initial reluctance, his family surrendered to his stubbornness so that Lacotte could become a student of Gustave Ricaux, who taught at the Paris Opera. In 1946 he was engaged in the Paris Opera Ballet and in 1953 became a principal dancer. Heinz Spoerli (born 8 July 1940) is a Swiss dance maker, internationally known. After a long career as a ballet dancer and company director, he is now widely considered to be one of the foremost European choreographers of his time. Early life and training Born in Basel into a prosperous family, Heinz Spörli was exposed to theater arts at an early age, thanks to the enthusiasm of his father.
