Eurovision 2017
The Eurovision Song Contest 2017 was the 62nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Kyiv, Ukraine, following the country's victory at the with the song "1944 (song), 1944" by Jamala. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Suspilne, Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine (UA:PBC), the contest was held at the International Exhibition Centre and consisted of two semi-finals on 9 and 11 May, and a final on 13 May 2017. The three live shows were presented by Ukrainian television presenters Oleksandr Skichko, Volodymyr Ostapchuk and Timur Miroshnychenko, being the first contest since the inaugural edition without a female host. International Exhibition Centre
The International Exhibition Centre ( uk, Міжнародний виставковий центр) in Kyiv is the largest exhibition centre in Ukraine. Located in the western portion of Livoberezhnyi neighborhood, Kyiv, Livoberezhna microdistrict, the center was opened in October 2002, and the head of the center since its construction was Anatoly Tkachenko. The Eurovision Song Contest 2017 was held at the Centre. History The idea of building the complex was from Viktor Tkachenko, then director of the Palace of Sports (Kyiv), Palace of Sports. Current director of the center, Ukrainian architect Yanush Wig designed the complex, and Eduard Safronov was the head of its construction. The location for construction was at the left bank of Kyiv, in the times of Soviet Union it was planned to build a futuristic public center in that area, but the project wasn't completed in its full scale. Salvador Thiam Vilar Braamcamp Sobral (; born 28 December 1989) is a Portuguese singer, who won the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 for with the song "Amar pelos dois," written and composed by his sister, Luísa Sobral. In doing so, he gave its first ever win in the contest since its debut in , ending the longest winless run by a country in Eurovision history (53 years). Sobral and his entry hold the Eurovision record for the highest-scoring winner, having earned a total of 758 points under the current voting system, after winning both the jury vote and televote. Early life Sobral was born in Lisbon and has lived there most of his life.
