European Socialists ( ka, ევროპელი სოციალისტები, translit=Evropeli Sotsialistebi) is a political party in Georgia. The party was founded on January 9, 2021, by four opposition MPs from the Alliance of Patriots party list. The party was registered in the National Agency of Public Registry on January 28. History After the 2020 parliamentary election, the opposition boycotted the Parliament, causing political crisis in Georgia. In December, 51 MPs from the opposition parties, including the Alliance of Patriots, which received four seats, asked the parliament to cancel their mandates. On December 23 Avtandil Enukidze (the fourth number on the Alliance of Patriots party list) announced his decision to keep the mandate despite of the Alliance of Patriots declaring a boycott. Alliance Of Patriots Of Georgia
The Alliance of Patriots of Georgia ( ka, საქართველოს პატრიოტთა ალიანსი, ''Sakartvelos Patriotta Aliansi'', APG) is a political party in the republic of Georgia. It was founded in 2012 by leaders from the Resistance Movement, which opposed the government of Mikheil Saakashvili. In the 2014 local elections, it gained an aggregate vote nationwide of 4.6%, exceeding the 4% threshold required to qualify as a political party for government funding. Through party-list voting in 47 cities, it won proportional seat representation on the local councils of 30 municipalities, including Tbilisi. 2020–2021 Georgian Political Crisis
The 2020–2021 Georgian political crisis started after the 2020 Georgian parliamentary election. The opposition accused the ruling Georgian Dream party of election fraud and did not recognize the results. They announced protests and parliamentary boycott. The opposition held a rally on November 1, a day after the elections, and called for snap parliamentary elections. On November 2, the eight opposition parties refused to enter parliament. In February 2021, Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia resigned over plans to arrest opposition leader Nika Melia, which occurred on 23 February. 2020 Georgian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Georgia on 31 October and 21 November 2020 to elect the 150 members of Parliament. The ruling Georgian Dream party led by Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia won re-election for a third term in office, making it the first party in Georgian history to do so. The election also saw a record number of opposition parties elected to parliament. The opposition boycotted the second round of the elections and called on voters to abstain; turnout in the second round was subsequently only 26.29%.
