Europcar Cup
The Europcar Cup was a professional team golf tournament played yearly in Biarritz, France, from 1985 to 1988. The tournament was designated as an "Approved Special Event" on the European Tour schedule. A further event was planned in 1989 but was cancelled. The event was contested by national teams of four players. Each golfer played four stroke-play rounds; the best three scores for each round being used for the team's score for that round. The 1988 Europcar Cup took place 3-6 November. Sweden won the 1988 event by 6 strokes with a score of 810, 18 under par. Biarritz ( , , , ; Basque also ; oc, Biàrritz ) is a city on the Bay of Biscay, on the Atlantic coast in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department in the French Basque Country in southwestern France. David Jones (golfer)
David Jones (born 22 June 1947) is a former European Tour golfer from Bangor, Northern Ireland. His best season was 1981, when he won the Irish PGA Championship and was joint third in the Carroll's Irish Open. He also won the 1989 Kenya Open and later played on the European Seniors Tour, winning the 1999 Jersey Seniors Open. Golf career Jones played regularly on the European Tour from the start of the tour in 1972. He had limited success, his best finish being tied for third in the 1981 Carroll's Irish Open. Played at Portmarnock Golf Club, the event was won by Sam Torrance who finished five strokes clear of Nick Faldo with Jones and two other Irishmen, Jimmy Heggarty and Des Smyth, a further shot behind. Marc-Antoine Farry (born 3 July 1959) is a French professional golfer. Farry was born in Paris, and started playing golf at the age of seven. He turned professional in 1979, and spent his early career as a teaching professional in Florida, United States. Farry was a full member of the European Tour from 1989 to 2004. He has won 16 tournaments on the French domestic tour, including the 1985 and 2000 French PGA Championships, but has only one win to his name on the European Tour, the 1996 BMW International Open, which was reduced to 36 holes because of rain. Juan Quirós Segura (born 25 February 1956) is a Spanish professional golfer. Quirós was born in La Linea, Andalusia. Magnus Grankvist (born 3 April 1964) is a Swedish professional golfer and golf coach. He won the 1986 Europcar Cup, a "special event" on the European Tour, and the 1989 SM Match on the Challenge Tour. Career Grankvist was part of the National Team as an amateur. Anders Gunnar Vilhelm Forsbrand (born 1 April 1961) is a Swedish professional golfer who formerly competed on the European Tour. Early life Forsbrand was born in Filipstad, Sweden. He began playing golf at Uddeholm Golf Club, a small club with a 9-hole course in Värmland, Sweden. He later came to represent nearby and bigger Karlstad Golf Club, with an 18-hole course and better practice facilities. Per-Arne Brostedt (born 9 January 1958) is a Swedish professional golfer, member of the winning Swedish team at the 1986 Europcar Cup, a special event on the European Tour. He was 1984 and 1985 Swedish PGA Champion and won the Swedish Golf Tour Order of Merit in 1985 and 1986. Arvid Magnus Sunesson (born 26 March 1964) is a Swedish professional golfer who played on the European Tour between 1987 and 1994. Miguel Ángel Martín (born 2 May 1962) is a Spanish professional golfer. Professional career Martín was born in Huelva. He started out as a caddie and turned professional in 1981. He has been a member of the European Tour for more than twenty seasons, and in 2005 he became the first Continental European golfer to make 500 appearances on the tour.
