Europa SC High Jump
The Banskobystricka latka is an annual indoor high jump competition which takes place at the Stiavnicky Sport Hall in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia. It was formerly known as the Europa SC High Jump due to sponsorship by the Europa Shopping Center, the city's main shopping mall. History The event was established in 1993 by a group of athletics enthusiasts, including Ľubomír Roško, Július Nyárjas, Róbert Ruffíni, and Robert Rozim. The first edition was held in the city's Štiavničkách Sports Hall and saw Šárka Kašpárková win the women's contest with a Czech record of 1.95 metres. High Jump
The high jump is a track and field event in which competitors must jump unaided over a horizontal bar placed at measured heights without dislodging it. In its modern, most-practiced format, a bar is placed between two standards with a crash mat for landing. Since ancient times, competitors have introduced increasingly effective techniques to arrive at the current form, and the current universally preferred method is the Fosbury Flop, in which athletes run towards the bar and leap head first with their back to the bar. The discipline is, alongside the pole vault, one of two vertical clearance events in the Olympic athletics program. It is contested at the World Championships in Athletics and the World Athletics Indoor Championships, and is a common occurrence at track and field meets. Kyriakos Ioannou
Kyriakos Ioannou ( el, Κυριάκος Ιωάννου, born 26 July 1984) is a Cypriot high jumper. He has twice won medals at the World Championships in Athletics (2007 and 2009) and was the bronze medallist at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in 2008. He is the only medalist for Cyprus at the World Athletics Championships since its creation in 1983. He's also the Cypriot record holder, both outdoors (2.35 m) and indoors (2.32 m). Ioannou is a two-time medallist at the Commonwealth Games (2006 and 2014) and took back-to-back gold medals at the Mediterranean Games in 2005 and 2009. Yuriy Sergiyenko
Yuriy Makarovich Sergiyenko ( uk, Юрій Макарович Сергієнко; born 19 March 1965) is a Ukrainian former track and field athlete who competed in the high jump. He competed internationally for the Soviet Union, the Unified Team, and finally Ukraine. His personal best of was set indoors in 1985 and he equalled that mark in 1993. Sergiyenko was the European Junior champion in 1983 and won the bronze medal at the 1991 Summer Universiade. After representing the Unified Team at the 1992 Summer Olympics, he won the gold medal at the 1992 IAAF World Cup. His final international appearance came at the 1993 IAAF World Indoor Championships. Eugen-Cristian Popescu (born 12 August 1962) is a retired Romanian high jumper. He finished seventh at the 1983 European Indoor Championships and at the 1986 European Championships, eighth at the 1987 European Indoor Championships and eleventh at the 1994 European Indoor Championships. He became national champion in 1983, 1987-1990, 1993, 1994, 1998 and 1999. Ivan Sergeyevich Ukhov (russian: Иван Сергеевич Ухов; born 29 March 1986) is a Russian high jumper. He won a gold medal at the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships and is a two-time European Indoor champion (2009 and 2011). He was also the silver medallist at the 2010 European Athletics Championships and the winner of the high jump at the inaugural 2010 IAAF Diamond League. In the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, he won the gold medal, but it was announced on 1 February 2019 that all his results from 16 July 2012 to 31 December 2015 were being disqualified for doping. Jesse Williams (athlete)
Jesse Daniel Williams (born December 27, 1983 in Modesto, California) is an American high jumper and the 2011 World Champion. He was ranked the #2 jumper in the world, outdoors, in 2010 and #1 in the world in 2011. He has jumped 53 centimeters above his height, a differential which places him among the top 20 jumpers of all time. Williams attended high school at Broughton High School in Raleigh, North Carolina and attended North Carolina State University for one year (2003) before transferring and finishing his student-athlete career at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles where he won the NCAA track and field championships indoors 2005 and 2006 and outdoors in 2005 and 2006 becoming one of the few people to ever do so in the history of NCAA track and field. Antonietta Di Martino (born 1 June 1978) is a retired Italian high jumper. She currently holds the Italian national women's high jump record at 2.03 metres for outdoor events and 2.04 metres for indoor events. She also currently holds the women's all-time highest jump-differential, meaning she has jumped the highest (0.35 metres) more than her own height. Her first significant international achievement was winning silver medal at the 2007 European Indoor Championships in Birmingham.
