Eulophophyllum Lobulatum
''Eulophophyllum'' is a genus of leaf mimicking bush crickets or katydids in the subfamily Phaneropterinae. It was originally circumscribed in 1922 by Morgan Hebard as a monospecific genus for the species ''E. thaumasium'', but two new species were described and added to the genus in 2016. Species The type species ''E. thaumasi'' was found originally in Labuan island, with the other species recorded from Sabah; ''E. lobulatum'' appears to be endemic to Mount Kinabalu where there is National Park protection. Morgan Hebard
Morgan Hebard (February 23, 1887 – December 28, 1946) was an American entomologist who specialized in orthoptera, and assembled a collection of over 250,000 specimens. Early life and education Morgan Hebard was born on February 23, 1887, in Cleveland, Ohio to Hannah Jeanette (née Morgan) and Charles Samuel Hebard. His father had a lumber manufacturing business in Pequaming, Michigan named ''Charles Hebard and Sons'', where he had co-developed a saw-mill and associated company town. Later, his father established the ''Hebard Cypress Company'', which constructed the Wikipedia:WikiProject Trains/ICC valuations/Waycross and Southern Railroad, Waycross and Southern Railroad specifically to harvest the cypress trees in the Okefenokee Swamp. The family also had houses in Thomasville, Georgia and Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Hebard attended Asheville School in North Carolina, educated by a private tutor, before graduating from Yale University in 1910. At Yale, Hebard won p ... Endemic
Endemism is the state of a species being found in a single defined geographic location, such as an island, state, nation, country or other defined zone; organisms that are indigenous to a place are not endemic to it if they are also found elsewhere. For example, the Cape sugarbird is found exclusively in southwestern South Africa and is therefore said to be ''endemic'' to that particular part of the world. An endemic species can be also be referred to as an ''endemism'' or in scientific literature as an ''endemite''. For example '' Cytisus aeolicus'' is an endemite of the Italian flora. '' Adzharia renschi'' was once believed to be an endemite of the Caucasus, but it was later discovered to be a non-indigenous species from South America belonging to a different genus. The extreme opposite of an endemic species is one with a cosmopolitan distribution, having a global or widespread range. A rare alternative term for a species that is endemic is "precinctive", which applies to ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Tettigoniidae Genera
Insects in the family Tettigoniidae are commonly called katydids (especially in North America), or bush crickets. They have previously been known as "long-horned grasshoppers". More than 8,000 species are known. Part of the suborder Ensifera, the Tettigoniidae are the only extant (living) family in the superfamily Tettigonioidea. They are primarily nocturnal in habit with strident mating calls. Many species exhibit mimicry and camouflage, commonly with shapes and colors similar to leaves. Etymology The family name Tettigoniidae is derived from the genus ''Tettigonia'', first described by Carl Linnaeus in 1758. In Latin ''tettigonia'' means a kind of small cicada, leafhopper; it is from the Greek τεττιγόνιον ''tettigonion'', the diminutive of the imitative (onomatopoeic) τέττιξ, ''tettix'', cicada. All of these names such as ''tettix'' with repeated sounds are onomatopoeic, imitating the stridulation of these insects. The common name ''katydid'' is also onomatop ... ''Eulophophyllum kirki'' is a katydid found in Danum Valley Conservation Area in the state of Sabah, Malaysia. It is in the genus ''Eulophophyllum'' in the subfamily Phaneropterinae. It was described in 2016. It was highlighted as one of SUNY-ESF's "Top 10 New Species of 2017". This species was described and named just on photographs, which has been criticized by some experts. Description Its body is a pink and reddish brown color with wings, veins, and legs that are light green pastel colors. It is leaf like in appearance with seven to eight dorsal branches across its surface. National Park
A national park is a nature park, natural park in use for conservation (ethic), conservation purposes, created and protected by national governments. Often it is a reserve of natural, semi-natural, or developed land that a sovereign state declares or owns. Although individual nations designate their own national parks differently, there is a common idea: the conservation of 'wild nature' for posterity and as a symbol of national pride. The United States established the first "public park or pleasuring-ground for the benefit and enjoyment of the people", Yellowstone National Park, in 1872. Although Yellowstone was not officially termed a "national park" in its establishing law, it was always termed such in practice and is widely held to be the first and oldest national park in the world. However, the Tobago Main Ridge Forest Reserve (in what is now Trinidad and Tobago; established in 1776), and the area surrounding Bogd Khan Mountain, Bogd Khan Uul Mountain (Mongolia, 1778), wh ... Leaf-mimic Katydid
There are many insects in the family Tettigoniidae (bush crickets or katydids) which are mimics of leaves. This type of camouflage occurs in several subfamilies including the: * Pterochrozinae * Phaneropterinae * Pseudophyllinae Other unrelated insects adopting a similar camouflage strategy include the leaf insects. Type Species
In zoological nomenclature, a type species (''species typica'') is the species name with which the name of a genus or subgenus is considered to be permanently taxonomically associated, i.e., the species that contains the biological type specimen(s). Article 67.1 A similar concept is used for suprageneric groups and called a type genus. In botanical nomenclature, these terms have no formal standing under the code of nomenclature, but are sometimes borrowed from zoological nomenclature. In botany, the type of a genus name is a specimen (or, rarely, an illustration) which is also the type of a species name. The species name that has that type can also be referred to as the type of the genus name. Names of genus and family ranks, the various subdivisions of those ranks, and some higher-rank names based on genus names, have such types.
