Euherbstia
''Euherbstia'' is a genus of mining bees in the family Andrenidae. The only species in this genus is ''Euherbstia excellens'', which is endemic to Chile. These bees have been observed to make nests in hard, compact soil, using cracks to enter the ground below. Females will make solitary nests. The female seeks out cracks in the ground, in which she digs a tunnel down to make her nest. She will repeatedly thump the walls of the tunnel with her abdomen, to make them more compact. Like all mining bees, they will create cells which they fill with pollen and eggs, closing them off until the larvae pupate and emerge the next year. Some larvae hibernate in a pupated state up to 2 years. This is probably because these bees live in an arid climate, where it is uncertain whether it will rain enough in a year to sustain the plants they need for food. Andreninae
The bee subfamily Andreninae is a nearly cosmopolitan lineage, with most of its diversity in one genus, ''Andrena'', which contains over 1500 species. The remaining four genera in the subfamily only contain a total of 9 species. Females of three of the genera (''Ancylandrena'', ''Andrena'', and '' Megandrena'') have broad, velvety depressions called "facial foveae" on the face between the eyes and the antennae; in all other members of the family, the foveae are much smaller, typically reduced to grooves or pits at the upper margin of the eyes. ''Ancylandrena'' and ''Megandrena'' occur only in the desert regions of southwestern North America (Nevada, California, Arizona, Sonora, and Baja California), while ''Andrena'' is nearly worldwide. ''Andrena'' is a genus of bees in the family Andrenidae. With over 1,500 species, it is one of the largest genera of animals. It is a strongly monophyletic group that is difficult to split into more manageable divisions; currently, ''Andrena'' is organized into 104 subgenera. Andrenidae
The Andrenidae (commonly known as mining bees) are a large, nearly cosmopolitan family of solitary, ground-nesting bees. Most of the family's diversity is located in temperate or arid areas (warm temperate xeric). It includes some enormous genera (e.g., ''Andrena'' with over 1300 species, and '' Perdita'' with over 700). One of the subfamilies, Oxaeinae, is so different in appearance that they were typically accorded family status, but careful phylogenetic analysis reveals them to be an offshoot within the Andrenidae, very close to the Andreninae. Cuckoo Bee
The term cuckoo bee is used for a variety of different bee lineages which have evolved the kleptoparasitism, kleptoparasitic behaviour of laying their eggs in the nests of other bees, reminiscent of the behavior of cuckoo birds. The name is perhaps best applied to the apidae, apid subfamily Nomadinae, but is commonly used in Europe to mean bumblebees ''List of bumblebee species, Bombus'' subgenus ''Psithyrus''.
