Eugenio Giani
Eugenio Giani (born 30 June 1959 in Empoli) is an Italian politician. He started his political activity in the Italian Socialist Party and he was active in the City council of Florence, of which he became president in 2009. He became a member of the Democratic Party the same year. At the 2015 Tuscan regional election he obtained 10,505 personal preferences only in the city of Florence, and on 25 June 2015 he was elected President of the Regional Council of Tuscany. 2020 Tuscan Regional Election
The 2020 Tuscan regional election was the 7th regional election held in Tuscany, Italy, and took place on 20 and 21 September 2020. It was originally scheduled to take place on 31 May 2020, but it was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic in Italy. The Democratic candidate, Eugenio Giani, defeated the League candidate, Susanna Ceccardi. Giani took office as President of Tuscany on October 8, 2020. Electoral system Tuscany uses its own legislation of 2014 to elect its Regional Council. The councillors are elected in provincial constituencies by proportional representation using the D'Hondt method. The constituency of Florence is further divided into 4 sub-constituencies. The Regional Council of Tuscany (''Consiglio Regionale della Toscana'') is the legislative assembly of Tuscany. It was first elected in 1970, when the ordinary regions were instituted, on the basis of the Constitution of Italy of 1948. Composition The Regional Council of Tuscany was originally composed of 50 regional councillors. In the 2005 regional election the number of councillors increased to 65, while in the 2010 regional election it was reduced to 53. Following the 2014 regional electoral reform the number of regional councillors was reduced to 40, with an additional seat reserved for the President of the Region. Enrico Rossi (politician)
Enrico Rossi (born 25 August 1958) is an Italian politician and former President of Tuscany. Early life He was born into a working-class family in 1958 and in 1982 he graduated with a Degree in Philosophy with a thesis on the Hungarian philosopher Ágnes Heller. During the university, he was part of the student movement and worked as a journalist. In 1985, he joined in the Italian Communist Party. Mayor of Pontedera and Regional Assessor of Health From 1985 to 1990 he was a member of the City Council of Pontedera (an industrial town with a large Piaggio-Vespa factory), serving as Vice Mayor and Councillor for Social Policy and Urban Planning. Later, he became Mayor of the same city, holding the office for nine years, from 1990 to 1999. During his second term, Rossi fought against the move of the ''Piaggio'' from Pontedera to Nusco. Empoli
Empoli () is a town and ''comune'' in the Metropolitan City of Florence, Tuscany, Italy, about southwest of Florence, to the south of the Arno in a plain formed by the river.
