Eternal Flame
An eternal flame is a flame, lamp or torch that burns for an indefinite time. Most eternal flames are ignited and tended intentionally, but some are natural phenomena caused by natural gas leaks, peat fires and coal seam fires, all of which can be initially ignited by lightning, piezoelectricity or human activity, some of which have burned for hundreds or thousands of years. In ancient times, eternal flames were fueled by wood or olive oil; modern examples usually use a piped supply of propane or natural gas. Human-created eternal flames most often commemorate a person or event of national significance, serve as a symbol of an enduring nature such as a religious belief, or a reminder of commitment to a common goal, such as diplomacy. Religious and cultural significance The eternal fire is a long-standing tradition in many cultures and religions. In ancient Iran the ''atar'' was tended by a dedicated priest and represented the concept of "divine sparks" or ''Amesha Spenta,'' ...

Eternal Flame (song)
"Eternal Flame" is a song by American pop rock group the Bangles for their third studio album, ''Everything'' (1988). The power ballad was written by group member Susanna Hoffs with the established hit songwriting team of Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly. Upon its 1989 single release, "Eternal Flame" became a number-one hit in nine countries, including Australia, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Since its release, it has been covered by many musical artists, including Australian boy band Human Nature, who reached the Australian top 10 with their version, and British girl group Atomic Kitten, who topped four national charts with their rendition. Production Two of the song's three writers, Tom Kelly and Susanna Hoffs, had met via the Bangles' October 30, 1986, concert at the Avalon Hollywood (then the Palace). Kelly attended the concert and backstage met the group's members. This led to Hoffs writing songs with Kelly and his regular songwriting partner Billy Stei ...

The Eternal Frame
''The Eternal Frame'' (1975) is a video-based art installation documenting the reenactment of the John F. Kennedy assassination in Dealey Plaza in a collaboration between two San Francisco-based artist collectives: T.R. Uthco (Diane Andrews Hall, Doug Hall, Jody Procter) and Ant Farm (Chip Lord, Doug Michels, Curtis Schreier). The artists taking on the roles of Kennedy, his wife Jacqueline, and others, rehearsed extensively to ensure verisimilitude, and when they performed the reenactment, it was executed with a striking attention to detail. While part of the video shows the artists playing on America's obsession with the media (T. R. Uthco's Jody Procter in his role as a Secret Service agent tells a camera, "We've always been worried about Dallas–it's a rough city, a gun city"), ultimately the video shows that the sacred images of the assassination cannot be mocked. This piece can be seen as a commentary on the pervasive media culture in America, as it explores how the Kennedy ass ...

Eternal Flame Falls
The Eternal Flame Falls is a small waterfall located in the Shale Creek Preserve, a section of Chestnut Ridge Park in Western New York. A small grotto at the waterfall's base emits natural gas, which can be lit to produce a small flame. This flame is visible nearly year round, although it can be extinguished and must occasionally be re-lit. The Eternal Flame Falls were featured in the book ''Secret Places'' by Bruce Kershner and in the book ''What's Weird on Earth''. Recent developments Once considered an "obscure" attraction in the region, media attention and improvements to the access trail have led to an increased number of visitors. The increased popularity of the falls has led to some negative impacts, such as an increase in litter, vandalism, pollution, and impacts on the surrounding terrain by tourists, but also fueled a successful public protest against a plan to clear a nearby forested area to install a disc golf course in 2012. However, the disc golf course was install ...

Eternal Flame (Azerbaijan)
Eternal Flame is a monument that was established for the Azerbaijanis who died during Black January. The monument is situated in Martyrs’ Line, Baku. Every year Azerbaijanis commemorate Black January in that place. History The initial idea for the establishment of the monument for martyrs originated in 1994. Heydar Aliyev was the initiator of the project and created the special commission for this issue. Two projects were presented to the president in the annual commemoration. One of the projects was presented by the sculptor Omer Eldarov. During these years the economic conditions were severe in the country and the main requirement for the monument was low cost. These two projects did not meet that requirement and so the project was delayed. Over the next years, new ideas were offered and the project created by the company led by sculptor Elbay Gasimzadeh won. The monument was built in accordance with a presidential decree dated on August 5, 1998. The value of the monument i ...
