Estádio 4 de Janeiro is a football stadium in Uíge, Angola. History Inaugurated on March 17, 1968, as Estádio José Ferreira de Lima, the stadium was then owned by Clube Recreativo do Uíge. Shortly after the independence, it was nationalized. The state-owned 12,000-seat stadium is the only one in Angola's northern province of Uíge that meets the international standards to host Girabola matches. The stadium has been used by all clubs in the province participating at the provincial championship as well as the 2nd and 1st division championships. 2017 disaster On February 10, 2017, during the inaugural match of the 2017 Girabola The 2017 Girabola was the 39th season of top-tier football in Angola. Uíge
Uíge ( kg, Wizidi), formerly Carmona, is a provincial capital city in northwestern Angola, with a population of 322,531 (2014 census), and a municipality, with a population of 519,196 (2014 census), located in the province of the same name. It grew from a small market centre in 1945 to become a city in 1956. Name Uíge was renamed Vila Marechal Carmona in 1955 after the former Portuguese President Óscar Carmona, renamed simply Carmona after it became a city, but changed back to Uíge in 1975. Santa Rita De Cássia FC
Santa Rita de Cássia Futebol Clube is an Angolan sports club from the city of Uíge. The team made its debut in the Gira Angola (Angola's second division championship) in 2016 after winning the Uige province football championship. The club is named after Italian saint Rita of Cascia in whose honor a sanctuary was built at the village of Casseche, Uíge city, where an annual pilgrimage is held. In 2016, its debutant year in the second division, the club managed to be promoted to Angola's top flight division, the Girabola. 2017 disaster On February 10, 2017, shortly after the inaugural match of the 2017 Girabola between home team Santa Rita de Cássia and Recreativo do Libolo, one of the access gates of Estádio 4 de Janeiro collapsed as access was made free and attendants tried to force their way into the stadium. Girabola
Girabola, or ''Campeonato Nacional de Futebol em Séniores Masculinos'', is the top division of Angolan football. It is organized by the Angolan Football Federation. The league winner and runner-up qualify for the CAF Champions League. Girabola ZAP In January 2016, Angolan subscription TV satellite and cable provider ZAP, the Angolan Football Federation and the Girabola clubs, signed a three-year deal in which ZAP will have broadcast rights over all Girabola matches. As part of the deal, the Angolan state-owned TV station TPA will be allowed to broadcast one game per week on its free-view platform. 2017 Girabola
The 2017 Girabola was the 39th season of top-tier football in Angola. The season ran from 10 February to 5 November 2017. The league comprised 16 teams and the bottom three teams were relegated to the 2018 Provincial stages. Teams A total of 16 teams contested the league, including 13 sides from the 2016 season and three promoted from the 2016 Segundona - Bravos do Maquis, J.G.M. and Santa Rita de Cássia. On the other hand, 4 de Abril do K.K., Porcelana F.C. and Primeiro de Maio were the last three teams of the 2016 season and played in the Segundona for the 2018 season. Clube Desportivo Primeiro de Agosto were the defending champions from the 2016 season.
