Esther Herlitz
Esther Herlitz ( he, אסתר הרליץ, 9 October 1921 – 24 March 2016) was an Israeli diplomat and politician who served as a member of the Knesset for the Alignment between 1973 and 1977 and again from 1979 until 1981. She was also Israel's first female ambassador, having been appointed as the country's ambassador to Denmark in 1966. Early life and education Born in Berlin, Germany in 1921, Herlitz migrated with her family to Mandatory Palestine in 1933. Her father, historian George Herlitz, founded the Central Zionist Archives in Jerusalem. She attended high school in Jerusalem, first at the Gymnasia Rehavia, and later at the Hebrew University Secondary School. She also studied at a teachers seminary and the Foreign Service school. Etzioni Brigade
The Etzioni Brigade ( he, חֲטִיבַת עֶצְיוֹנִי, ''Hativat Etzyoni''), also 6th Brigade and Jerusalem Brigade, was an infantry brigade in the Haganah and Israel Defense Forces in the 1948 Arab–Israeli War. It was founded in late 1947 as the Field Corps unit responsible for the defense of Jerusalem and its surroundings, where it operated during the war along with the Harel Brigade. Its first commander was Yisrael Amir, who was replaced by David Shaltiel. Major-General Chaim Herzog ( he, חיים הרצוג; 17 September 1918 – 17 April 1997) was an Irish-born Israeli politician, general, lawyer and author who served as the sixth President of Israel between 1983 and 1993. Mina Ben-Zvi ( he, מינה בן-צבי; 1909-2000) was the first commanding officer of the Israeli Defense Forces’ Women's Corps. Biography Mina Ben-Zvi was born as Mina Rogozik in 1909 in Ukraine (Velyki Mezhyrichi, Rivne Oblast). In 1921 she moved with her family to Mandatory Palestine. After completing her education, in 1933, at the age of 24, she joined the Haifa branch of the Haganah.
