Est Region, Burkina Faso
Est (, "East") is one of Burkina Faso's 13 administrative regions. It was created on 2 July 2001. The region's capital is Fada N'gourma. Five provinces make up the region— Gnagna, Gourma, Komondjari, Kompienga, and Tapoa. , the population of the region was 1,941,505 with 51% females. The population in the region was 9.47% of the total population of the country. The child mortality rate was 98, infant mortality rate was 98 and the mortality of children under five was 186. As of 2007, the literacy rate in the region was 28.5%, compared with a national average of 28.3%. The coverage of cereal need compared with the total production of the region was 108%. Geography Most of Burkina Faso is a wide plateau formed by riverine systems and is called falaise de Banfora. Diapaga
Diapaga is a city in, and the capital of, Tapoa Province, situated in eastern Burkina Faso. The main ethnic group in the city are the Gourmantché. It is a major centre for health services in the region. The W Park militant group of Burkina Faso are reported to have their headquarters in the town. On November 21, 2023, a mass shooting occurred in Diapaga, when coordinated and synchronized attacks that killed at least 15, predominately civilians. The attacks targeted two neighborhoods in Diapaga, inflicting casualties including three Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP, civilian auxiliaries to the army) and twelve civilians. On March 28, 2025, Jama'at Nasr al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) launched an assault on the Burkinabe army and VDP base in the city, which led to the deaths of over 100 people, including civilians and the commander of the station, Yannick Sawadogo. Tsetse ( , or ) (sometimes spelled tzetze; also known as tik-tik flies) are large, biting flies that inhabit much of tropical Africa. Tsetse flies include all the species in the genus ''Glossina'', which are placed in their own family, Glossinidae. Savannah
A savanna or savannah is a mixed woodland-grassland (i.e. grassy woodland) biome and ecosystem characterised by the trees being sufficiently widely spaced so that the canopy does not close.
