Esporte Clube Passo Fundo, commonly referred to as Passo Fundo, is a Brazilian football club based in Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul. It currently plays in Campeonato Gaúcho Série A2, the second level of the Rio Grande do Sul state football league. History The club was founded on January 10, 1986 as a result of a merger between 14 de Julho (founded in 1921) and Gaúcho (founded in 1918), and adopted as its colors 14 de Julho's red and Gaúcho's green. Gaúcho left the merger after only one year, but the club kept its name and colors. They won the Campeonato Gaúcho Second Division in 1986. The Campeonato Gaúcho Série A2 (Gaucho Championship Series A2) are the football tournament for the Rio Grande do Sul clubs that do not play in the Campeonato Gaúcho Série A1 in Brazil. Passo Fundo
Passo Fundo is a municipality in the north of the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. It is named after its river. It's the twelfth largest city in the state with an estimated population of 204,722 inhabitants living in a total municipal area of 780 km2. Passo Fundo is a city well known because of the singer, composer and filmmaker Vitor Mateus Teixeira, better known as Teixeirinha, he was born in the city of Rolante in Rio Grande do Sul, and adopted the city of Passo Fundo as his own, the singer liked a lot from the city, in 1960 he composed the song "Gaúcho de Passo Fundo", which was very successful and made Passo Fundo become a known city throughout Brazil. Teixeirinha composed two more songs in homage to the city of Passo Fundo, they are "Saudades de Passo Fundo" (1963) and "Passo Fundo do Coração" (1973), as well as producing and starring in a film set in the city, a film called "O Gaucho de Passo Fundo", released in 1978. The Brazilian states football championships are the professional adult male soccer competitions in Brazil that take place between January and April for the Northeast, Central-West, Southeast and South regions. In some states from the North Region, however, it takes place in May or June. Sport Club Gaúcho , also known as Gaúcho, is a Brazilian soccer club based in Passo Fundo, Brazil. History This club was founded on May 12, 1918 to serve the central plateau in the northern region of Rio Grande do Sul. Gaúcho won twice the lower divisions of the Campeonato Gaúcho (the Rio Grande do Sul state league), in 1966 and 1977. In 1980s the club played in the first division of state league, but, lacking sponsorship, generally finished in the middle rankings. In 2000, Gaúcho faced financial difficulties. While the club had historically weathered such downsizings in the past, the 2000 difficulties resulted in the loss of access to their stadium. Lacking municipal support and facing mounting debts, the club folded in 2005. Responding to popular support, the club was revived in 2009.
