Eschershausen was a ''Samtgemeinde'' ("collective municipality") in the district of Holzminden, in Lower Saxony, Germany. Its seat was in the town Eschershausen. On 1 January 2011, it merged with the former ''Samtgemeinde'' Stadtoldendorf to form the new ''Samtgemeinde'' Eschershausen-Stadtoldendorf. A ''Samtgemeinde'' (; plural: ''Samtgemeinden'') is a type of administrative division in Lower Saxony, Germany. ''Samtgemeinden'' are local government associations of municipality, municipalities, equivalent to the ''Amt (administrative division), Ämter'' in Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and Brandenburg, and the ''Verbandsgemeinden'' in Rhineland-Palatinate. Function A ''Samtgemeinde'' is a Government agency, government body composed of a collective association of ''Gemeinde (Germany), gemeinden'' (municipality, municipalities), the lowest level of official territorial division in Germany. Holzminden () is a district in Lower Saxony, Germany, with the town of Holzminden as its administrative capital. It is bounded by (from the north and clockwise) the districts of Hamelin-Pyrmont, Hildesheim and Northeim, and by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (districts of Höxter and Lippe).
