''Escalada'' is a Brazilian telenovela produced and broadcast by TV Globo. It premiered on 6 January 1975 and ended on 23 August 1975, with a total of 197 episodes in Black and white. A telenovela is a type of a television serial drama or soap opera produced primarily in Latin America. The word combines ''tele'' (for "television") and ''novela'' (meaning "novel"). Similar drama genres around the world include '' teleserye'' (Philippines), '' téléroman'' (Canada, specifically Quebec), and ''sinetron'' (Indonesia). Commonly described using the American colloquialism Spanish soap opera, many telenovelas share some stylistic and thematic similarities to the soap opera familiar to the English-speaking world. Heloísa Helena (28 October 1917 – 19 June 1999) was a Brazilian actress and singer. Her real name was ''Heloísa Helena Almeida Gama de Magalhães'' or ''Heloisa Helena de Almeida Lima''. She was born on in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and died in Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In her early career, Heloísa sang in English on the radio, which she spoke with an American accent. Leonardo Villar (25 July 1923 – 3 July 2020) was a Brazilian actor. He became internationally known for his performance as Zé do Burro in Anselmo Duarte's ''O Pagador de Promessas'', the only Brazilian film so far awarded a Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. She is the daughter of actress Marisa Sanches with the American musician, Douglas Duke.
