Erstavik
Erstavik is a manor house in Nacka Municipality, Sweden. Located south of Stockholm, at an inlet of the Baltic Sea. The surrounding property is one of the few remaining in Sweden still held as ''fideicommissum''. It is located next to the Nackareservatet nature reserve. The property was acquired by Herman Petersen in the 1700s. Herman Petersen
Herman Petersen (13 December 171313 August 1765) was a Swedish merchant. Biography Herman Petersen was born on 13 December 1713 to Abraham Petersen, a wholesaler in Gothenburg and his wife Christina Tham. He was elected to serve as director of the Swedish East India Company for a period during the 18th century. Petersen traded great amounts of copper with France. He did so with his company ''Petersen & Bedoire'', that he had started with his brother-in-law, Fredrik Bedoire. Petersen was a member of the so called ''Skeppsbroadel''. Petersen was one of the wealthiest men in Sweden during the 18th century, and with all of his money, he bought several estates that still lasts in the family as of today. His children were raised to peerage after he had died. A nobiliary particle "af" were added to their surname. In 1741, he married Magdalena Bedoire, and in 1753 her cousin, Charlotta Bedoire. Nacka Municipality
Nacka Municipality (''Nacka kommun'') is a municipality in Stockholm County in east-central Sweden. Its seat is located at Nacka. The municipality is situated just east of the capital Stockholm and the western parts are considered a suburban part of the city of Stockholm. The present municipality was created in 1971 when the ''City of Nacka'' (itself instituted in 1949) was amalgamated with ''Saltsjöbaden'' (itself detached from "old" Nacka in 1909) and ''Boo''. Jean Eric Rehn
Jean Eric Rehn (18 May 1717, Stockholm - 19 May 1793, Stockholm) was a Swedish architect, engraver and designer. Biography His father, Eric, was a government ombudsman for the Sámi people. While still a boy, he became part of the , a forerunner to the engineering corps, where he served as a Sub-Lieutenant. In 1740, at the age of twenty-three, he went to Paris to study etching, with the help of a government grant. There, he worked in the studios of Jacques-Philippe Le Bas, creating hunting scenes. In 1745 the architect, Carl Hårleman, made contact with him on behalf of the Swedish government, offering him a position creating designs for the silk, wool and linen factories supported by the , and related facilities. Manor House
A manor house was historically the main residence of the lord of the manor. The house formed the administrative centre of a manor in the European feudal system; within its great hall were held the lord's manorial courts, communal meals with manorial tenants and great banquets. The Baltic Sea is an arm of the Atlantic Ocean that is enclosed by Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Sweden and the North and Central European Plain. A ''fideicommissum'' is a type of bequest in which the beneficiary is encumbered to convey parts of the decedent's estate to someone else. For example, if a father leaves the family house to his firstborn, on condition that they will bequeath it to their first child. It was one of the most popular legal institutions in ancient Roman law for several centuries. Nackareservatet is a nature reserve along the border between Stockholm and Nacka Municipality in Sweden. The area includes small lakes. with a natural setting typical of the southern Stockholm area.
