Ernest Walter Gerrand
Ernest Walter Gerrand (August 14, 1884 – 1970) was a lawyer and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Melville from 1935 to 1938 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Liberal. He was born in Miniota, Manitoba, the son of David Gerrand and Alice Cole, and was educated in Portage la Prairie and at the University of Manitoba. In 1913, he married a Miss Shields. Gerrand lived in Melville, Saskatchewan. Melville was a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada. Located in southeastern Saskatchewan, this constituency was created before the 8th Saskatchewan general election in 1934. The ''Representation Act, 2002'' (Saskatchewan) merged this riding with parts of the Saltcoats electoral district to form the new riding of Melville-Saltcoats. Legislative Assembly Of Saskatchewan
The Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan is the legislative chamber of the Saskatchewan Legislature in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Bills passed by the assembly are given royal assent by the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, in the name of the King in Right of Saskatchewan. The assembly meets at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building in Regina. There are 61 constituencies in the province, which elect members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to the Legislative Assembly. All are single-member districts, though the cities of Regina, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw were in the past represented through multi-member districts, with members elected through Block Voting. The Saskatchewan Liberal Party is a liberal political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. The party was the provincial affiliate of the Liberal Party of Canada until 2009. Miniota, Manitoba
Miniota, Manitoba is an unincorporated community recognized as a local urban district in Prairie View Municipality, Manitoba, Canada. It is located northwest of Virden near the intersection of PTH 83 and PTH 24. The post office opened in 1885 on 36-13-27W. It was originally named Parkisimo and changed to its present name in 1900. It had two railways in its history: the Canadian Pacific Railway and the Grand Trunk Railway (now Canadian National Railway). Both had rail points about one mile apart and there was a Miniota Station on the latter. Miniota has a K-8 school, a motel, and the biggest employer is the local co-op. There is also the Miniota Municipal Museum. The Rural Municipality of Miniota has its offices in the community. Portage la Prairie () is a small city in the Central Plains Region of Manitoba, Canada. As of 2016, the population was 13,304 and the land area of the city was . Portage la Prairie is approximately west of Winnipeg, along the Trans-Canada Highway (exactly halfway between the provincial boundaries of Saskatchewan and Ontario). James Garfield Gardiner (30 November 1883 – 12 January 1962) was a Canadian farmer, educator, and politician. He served as the fourth premier of Saskatchewan, and as a minister in the Canadian Cabinet. Political career Gardiner was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan in 1914, served as Minister of Highways (1922–1926) in the government of Premier Charles A. Dunning from 1922, and succeeded Dunning as premier in 1926.
