Erlend Øvereng Bjøntegaard (born 30 July 1990) is a Norwegian biathlete. He has competed in the Biathlon World Cup, and represented Norway at the Biathlon World Championships 2016. Kongsberg () is a historical mining town and municipality in Buskerud, Viken county, Norway. The city is located on the river Numedalslågen at the entrance to the valley of Numedal. Kongsberg has been a centre of silver mining, arms production and forestry for centuries, and is the site of high technology industry including the headquarters of Norway's largest defence contractor Kongsberg Gruppen. Biathlon World Championships 2016
The 48th Biathlon World Championships was held in Oslo, Norway from 3 to 13 March 2016. There were 11 competitions in total: sprint, pursuit, individual, mass start, relay races for men and women, and mixed relay. All the events during this championships also counted towards the Biathlon World Cup. Host selection Oslo was the sole candidate for this championship. Oslo was announced as the host city on 2 September 2012 during the X IBU Congress in Merano, Italy. Two years earlier Oslo lost Biathlon World Championships 2015 to Kontiolahti. This was the sixth time that these World Championships were held in Oslo; the city had previously hosted the event in 1986, 1990 (certain events held in Oslo due to difficult weather in the host city of Minsk), 1999 (certain events held in Oslo due to difficult weather in the host city of Kontiolahti), 2000 and 2002 (only the mass start as it was not on the program for the 2002 Olympics). The Biathlon World Championships 2020 took place in Rasen-Antholz, Italy, from 12 to 23 February 2020. Host selection On 4 September 2016, Antholz-Anterselva won the voting (30 votes) during the twelfth IBU Congress in Chișinău over Pokljuka (15 votes) and Oberhof, Germany (four votes). The Biathlon World Championships 2019 took place in Östersund, Sweden, from 6 to 17 March 2019. There were a total of 12 competitions: sprint, pursuit, individual, mass start, and relay races for men and women, and two mixed relay races. The single mixed relay was on the program of the World Championships for the first time. All the events during this championships also counted for the 2018–19 Biathlon World Cup season. Host selection On 7 September 2014, Östersund won the voting (27 votes) in St. Wolfgang, Austria over Antholz, Italy (16 votes), Nové Město na Moravě, Czech Republic (4 votes) and Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia (2 votes). Biathlon at the 2018 Winter Olympics was held at the Alpensia Biathlon Centre, Daegwallyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do, South Korea. There were eleven events contested: men and women competed in each of sprint, pursuit, individual, mass start, and relay; there was also a mixed relay event. The eleven events were scheduled to take place between 9 and 23 February 2018. Qualification A total of 230 quota spots were available to athletes to compete at the games (115 men and 115 women). Countries were assigned quotas using a combination of the Nation Cup scores of their top three athletes in the individual, sprint, and relay competitions, during the 2016–17 Biathlon World Cup season. The Biathlon World Cup is a top-level biathlon season-long competition series. It has been held since the winter seasons of 1977–78 Biathlon World Cup, 1977–78 for men and 1982–83 Biathlon World Cup, 1982–83 for women. The women's seasons until 1986–87 Biathlon World Cup, 1986–87 season were called the European Cup, although participation was not restricted to Europeans. Competition and format The World Cup season lasts from November or December to late March, with meetings in a different venue every week excluding some holidays and a couple of weeks before the season's major championships (World Championships or Winter Olympics).
