Erich Sokol
Erich Sokol (31 March 1933 - 20 February 2003) was an Austrian illustrator and caricaturist. Life and career Erich Sokol was born in Vienna and attended the Goethe-Realschule (now Gymnasium Astgasse) in the city's 14th district. Besides his interest in handball, drawing was his passion from an early age. During his high school years he attended courses at the Akademie der bildenden Künste" in Vienna. In 1952, the young Sokol sold his first drawing to the socialist newspaper ''Das Kleine Blatt'' for a fee of 15 shillings at the time. In 1952, he graduated from high school and began his studies at the Hochschule für Welthandel. Parallel to his business studies, drawing remained his true passion, and he also achieved further sales success with it. He produced illustrated jokes and political cartoons for, among others, Neuer Kurier, Die Presse, stern, Die Bühne, Wiener Bilderwoche, Schweizer Illustrierte Zeitung, Arbeiter-Zeitung, Weltpresse and Münchner Illustrierte. ... The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (german: link=no, Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien) is a public art school in Vienna, Austria. History The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna was founded in 1692 as a private academy modelled on the Accademia di San Luca and the Parisien Académie de peinture et de sculpture by the court-painter Peter Strudel, who became the ''Praefectus Academiae Nostrae''. In 1701 he was ennobled by Emperor Joseph I as ''Freiherr'' (Baron) of the Empire. With his death in 1714, the academy temporarily closed. On 20 January 1725, Emperor Charles VI appointed the Frenchman Jacob van Schuppen as Prefect and Director of the Academy, which was refounded as the ''k.k. Hofakademie der Maler, Bildhauer und Baukunst'' (Imperial and Royal Court Academy of painters, sculptors and architecture). Mödling
Mödling () is the capital of the Austrian Mödling (district), district of the same name located approximately 14 km south of Vienna. Mödling lies in Lower Austria's industrial zone (Industrieviertel). The Mödlingbach, a brook which rises in the Vienna Woods, flows through the town. Near Achau it joins with the Schwechat. Woodland occupies a large part of the municipality, part of the Föhrenberge ('Pine Mountains'). Located immediately south of Vienna, and within the boundaries of the district of Mödling, is one of the largest shopping centres in Europe: Shopping City Süd (SCS). Helmut Qualtinger (; 8 October 1928 – 29 September 1986; alt. sp.: ''Helmuth Qualtinger''; birthname: ''Helmut Gustav Friedrich Qualtinger'') was an actor, writer, reciter and cabaret performer. Biography He was born Helmut Gustav Friedrich Qualtinger in Vienna, First Austrian Republic to a secondary education teacher and his wife, stemming from the bourgeoise class of the Bildungsbürgertum, his father being a follower of the German Nazi movement. While at school Qualtinger's interest in literature and acting became obvious and he founded a youth theater as a pupil. Afterwards he initially studied medicine and literature, but quit university to become a newspaper reporter and film critic for local press, while beginning to write his own texts for cabaret performances and theater plays. Bruno Kreisky
Bruno Kreisky (; 22 January 1911 – 29 July 1990) was an Austrian social democratic politician who served as Foreign Minister from 1959 to 1966 and as Chancellor from 1970 to 1983. Aged 72 at the end of his chancellorship, he was the oldest Chancellor after World War II. His 13-year tenure was the longest of any Chancellor in republican Austria. With his 13-year chancellorship, known as the Kreisky era, he is one of the most important political figures in the country as well as in Western European social democracy.
