The Legislative Assembly of Manitoba (french: Assemblée législative du Manitoba) is the deliberative assembly of the Manitoba Legislature in the Canadian province of Manitoba. Fifty-seven members are elected to this assembly at provincial general elections, all in single-member constituencies with first-past-the-post voting. Bills passed by the Legislative Assembly are given royal assent by the King of Canada in Right of Manitoba, represented by the Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba. Thompson (electoral District)
Thompson is a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was created by redistribution in 1968 from parts of Churchill and Rupertsland, and has formally existed since the provincial election of 1969. Thompson is located in the north of the province. It is bordered by Keewatinook to the east, and Flin Flon to the west. The city of Thompson was incorporated shortly before the riding's creation, and is its only major urban centre. Almost half of the riding's residents live in that community. The riding's population in 1996 was 19,349. In 1999, the average family income was $56,402, and the unemployment rate was 12.60%. The riding's character is primarily working-class, with 17% of its economy coming from the mining sector. Forty-two per cent of the riding's residents are aboriginal, the third highest rate in the province. The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC; preceded by the Manitoba Indian Brotherhood) is an Advocacy association, association that advocates on issues affecting First Nations in Manitoba. The New Democratic Party of Manitoba (french: Nouveau Parti démocratique du Manitoba) is a social-democratic political party in Manitoba, Canada. It is the provincial wing of the federal New Democratic Party, and is a successor to the Manitoba Co-operative Commonwealth Federation. It is currently the opposition party in Manitoba. Formation and early years In the federal election of 1958, the national Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) was reduced to only eight seats in the House of Commons of Canada. Thompson (population 13,678) is the largest city in the Northern Region of Manitoba and is situated along the Burntwood River, north of Winnipeg. The Shamattawa First Nation ( cr, ᑭᓭᒫᑖᐘ, kisêmâtâwa) () is a remote First Nations community in northern Manitoba, Canada, located in the reserve of Shamattawa 1. Shamattawa 1 is located on the banks of the Gods River where the Echoing River joins as a right tributary. The population was 1,019, an increase of 2.1% over the 2011 figure of 998. As a remote, isolated community, Shamattawa for part of the year is only connected to the rest of the province by winter and ice roads − temporary roads over frozen water. Winter roads also extend east of the community towards Fort Severn, and Peawanuck, Ontario. It can also be reached via Shamattawa Airport. It has only one grocery store.
