Eric Milligan (politician)
Eric Milligan (born 27 January 1951) was one of the Councillors for Sighthill/Gorgie ward, Edinburgh, Scotland. He was Convener of the Lothian and Borders Police Board from 2003 until 2007. He retired as a councillor in 2017. He is a member of the Labour Party. Milligan was born on 27 January 1951. He was the last Convener of Lothian Regional Council (abolished at local government reorganisation in 1994). He subsequently became a member of the City of Edinburgh Council and Lord Provost of Edinburgh (1996–2003), one of the longest-serving holders of the office. He is a supporter of Heart of Midlothian FC. Lothian And Borders Police
Lothian and Borders Police was the territorial police force for the Scottish council areas of the City of Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian, Scottish Borders and West Lothian between 1975 and 2013. The force's headquarters were in Fettes Avenue, Edinburgh. Lothian and Borders Police was formed on 16 May 1975 by an amalgamation of Berwick, Roxburgh and Selkirk Constabulary, Edinburgh City Police and The Lothians and Peebles Constabulary. The Right Honourable Lord Provost of Edinburgh is the convener of the City of Edinburgh local authority, who is elected by City_of_Edinburgh_Council, the city council and serves not only as the chair of that body, but as a figurehead for the entire city, ex officio the Lord-Lieutenant of Edinburgh. It is the equivalent in many ways to the institution of Mayor that exists in many other countries. Heart of Midlothian Football Club, commonly known as Hearts, is a professional football club in Edinburgh, Scotland. The team competes in the Scottish Professional Football League. Dr Norman Irons
Norman Macfarlane Irons CBE (4 January 1941 – 26 November 2023) was a Scottish politician who was lord provost of Edinburgh between 1992 and 1996. Irons was born on 4 January 1941. He was the first lord provost of the city from the Scottish National Party (SNP). Although Irons was one of only two SNP representatives on the city council at the time, these votes were crucial in maintaining the minority administration of the ruling Labour Party. As such, Labour councillors were his majority backers for the post of lord provost. In 2005 he asserted that the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary killed his 89-year-old mother through "basic neglect" and improper care. Irons served as the honorary consul for Hungary in Edinburgh. Irons was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 1995 New Year Honours for services to local government. Irons died on 26 November 2023, at the age of 82.
