Eric LaFleur
Eric LaFleur (born March 28, 1964, in Ville Platte, Louisiana, Ville Platte, Louisiana) is an American attorney and politician. A Democratic Party (United States), Democrat, LaFleur is a former member of the Louisiana State Senate for the Louisiana's 28th State Senate district, 28th district, serving from 2008 until 2020. Earlier he was a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives for District 38 (Evangeline Parish, Evangeline and St. Landry Parish, St. Landry parishes) from 2000 to 2008. He was first elected without opposition to an open seat vacated by Dirk Deville. He was re-elected four years later in 2003 with 81 percent of the vote. Personal life LaFleur is the son of Dwight LaFleur, a lifelong resident of Ville Platte. He was formerly a merchant and served as an USAF, Air Force fighter pilot. Louisiana's 28th State Senate district is one of 39 districts in the Louisiana State Senate. It has been represented by Republican Heather Cloud since 2020, succeeding term-limited Democrat Eric LaFleur. Chataignier is a village in Evangeline Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 364 at the 2010 census. Geography Chataignier is located at (30.570834, -92.319089). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of , all land. History The name ''Chataignier'' is French and means "chinquapin," a small chestnut. Chinquapins ('' Castanea pumila'') grew abundantly in the surrounding prairie until the chestnut blight wiped them out. They are now non-existent in the Chataignier community. Bunkie is a city in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 4,171 at the 2010 census. History Bunkie was founded as a station terminus on the Texas and Pacific Railroad line. It was named for the daughter (whose nickname was "Bunkie") of the original landowner. The federal post office in town contains a mural, ''Cotton Pickers'', painted in 1939 during the Great Depression by Caroline Speare Rohland. Federally commissioned murals were produced from 1934 to 1943 in the United States through the Section of Painting and Sculpture, later called the Section of Fine Arts, of the Treasury Department.
