Eric Griego
Eric G. Griego (born January 22, 1966) is an American politician from the state of New Mexico. A member of the Democratic Party, he served in the New Mexico Senate, representing the 14th district, from 2009 to 2013. He began his political career elected as a councilman to the Albuquerque City Council, serving 1999 to 2004. Griego sought the Democratic nomination in the 2012 Congressional election, losing to Michelle Lujan Grisham in the three-candidate primary. Early life and education Griego was born in 1966 and raised in a Catholic family in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After attending local schools, Griego completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Government at New Mexico State University in 1989 and an Master of Public Administration in Public Management at University of Maryland in 1991. James Taylor (New Mexico Politician)
James G. Taylor (born February 5, 1966) is an American politician who served as a member of the New Mexico House of Representatives for the 12th district from 1994 through 2004 and New Mexico Senate for the 14th district from 2004 to 2008. Career Taylor was elected to the New Mexico House of Representatives in 1994. In 2004, Taylor was appointed to the New Mexico Senate. In 2008 he was defeated for re-election in the Democratic primary by Eric Griego, a member of the Albuquerque City Council. After losing the primary, he filed a lawsuit to overturn the results of the election. In 2012, Taylor ran for his old seat. Lea County Correctional Center
The Lea County Correctional Facility (LCCF) is a medium-security prison for men located four miles north-west of Hobbs, New Mexico, opened in 1998 on 60 acres of the former Hobbs Army Airfield, now adjacent to the Lea County Regional Airport. The facility can house 1200 state inmates of the New Mexico Corrections Department, and is operated by the private GEO Group under a contract administered through the county. In its first year, LCCF was "the site of three fatal inmate stabbings, six nonfatal stabbings, a 'near-riot' and allegations of guards using excessive force, according to reports in both the Albuquerque Journal and Albuquerque Tribune." 2013 South Valley Homicides
A mass shooting on January 19, 2013, in South Valley, New Mexico, resulted in the deaths of five family members of the Griego family: the parents and three younger children. They were shot with two different weapons. The 15-year-old eldest son of the family, Nehemiah Griego, was arrested and charged with the shootings. In October 2015, Nehemiah Griego pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder and three counts of child abuse resulting in death. As he was a minor at the time of the crimes, a family court judge proposed to sentence him accordingly. This was appealed by the prosecutor and overturned by the appeals court in 2019. Michelle Lujan Grisham
Michelle Lynn Lujan Grisham (; born October 24, 1959) is an American lawyer and politician serving as the 32nd governor of New Mexico since 2019. A member of the Democratic Party, Lujan Grisham previously served as the U.S. representative for New Mexico's 1st congressional district from 2013 to 2019. Lujan Grisham served as the state secretary of health from 2004 to 2007 and as a Bernalillo County commissioner from 2010 to 2012. KOAT-TV (channel 7) is a television station in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States, affiliated with ABC.
