Erhan Tabakoglu
Erhan Tabakoğlu (born 1967 in Kırklareli in the Province of Kırklareli) is a Turkish professor of medicine at Trakya University. He was elected as the new rector of the university on 12 July 2016 by a majority vote, and at the end of July the election was confirmed. He defeated the incumbent rector Yener Yörük, who was also a candidate. In 2016 he was elected as General Secretary of Balkan Universities Association and in 2020 Tabakoglu was confirmed as rector for a second term until 2024. Life and work Tabakoglu was born in 1967 and attended primary and secondary school in Alpulla and took school leaving examinations in Edirne. Kırklareli
Kırklareli () is a city within Kırklareli Province in the East Thrace, European part of Turkey. Name It is not clearly known when the city was founded, nor under what name. The Byzantine Greeks called it Sarànta Ekklisiès (''Σαράντα Εκκλησιές'', meaning ''forty churches''). In Greek language, modern Greek it is known with the same name, too. In the 14th century this was translated to Turkish language, Turkish and called "''Kırk Kilise''". Following the establishment of the Turkish Republic in 1923, sanjaks became cities and on December 20, 1924, Kırk Kilise's name was changed to ''Kırklareli'', meaning ''The Place of the Forties''. The denomination ''Kırklareli'' was already used years before 1924, for example in the contemporary literature concerning the Balkan Wars of 1912–13. Kırklareli Province
Kırklareli Province ( tr, ) is a Provinces of Turkey, province in northwestern Turkey on the west coast of the Black Sea. The province neighbours Bulgaria to the north along a long border. It borders the province of Edirne to the west and the province of Tekirdağ to the south and province of Istanbul to the southeast. Kırklareli is the capital city of the province. Trakya University ( tr, Trakya Üniversitesi), was established on July 20, 1982. The university is located in Edirne, at Turkey's European side (Eastern Thrace). Yener Yörük
Yener Yörük (born May 25, 1963) is a Turkish physician and university professor. He specializes in thoracic surgery. In 2012–2016, he was Chancellor (Rector) of the Trakya University in Edirne. Biography Yörük was born on May 25, 1963 in Manisa. He graduated from Eskişehir Anatolian High School in 1981 and started his undergraduate study in Istanbul Medicine Faculty. After graduating in 1987, he finished one-year compulsory service in Gümüşhane Köse as a practitioner and started residency in the Department of Thoracic Surgery in Faculty of Medicine, Trakya University in 1988. Balkan Universities Network
The Balkan Universities Network or Balkan Universities Association (BAUNAS) is an association of universities in Southeast Europe. In its present form the body was created after the breakup of the SFR Yugoslavia and the end of the Yugoslav Wars. Association facilitates the regional cooperation in the context of expansion of higher education sector caused by the establishment of new private and public universities (in addition to traditional schools with their existing institutional links). Association helped in the exchange of experiences in the implementation of the Bologna Process at Balkan universities. Edirne
Edirne (, ), formerly known as Adrianople or Hadrianopolis (Greek: Άδριανούπολις), is a city in Turkey, in the northwestern part of the province of Edirne in Eastern Thrace.
