Eredivisie (hockey)
The ''Eredivisie'' ("Premier League") was, during its existence, the only professional ice hockey league in the Netherlands and the highest level of competition organized by the Nederlandse IJshockey Bond (NIJB; English: "Dutch Ice Hockey Federation"). Formed in 1945 and playing continuously since 1964, the league mainly featured Dutch teams, although in some seasons certain Belgian teams competed. The league featured a mix of Dutch, European and overseas players. The winner of the Eredivisie was crowned the Dutch National Champion and represented the Netherlands in the IIHF Continental Cup. In 2015, with most of its teams facing financial problems and its top team, Tilburg Trappers, joining the German Oberliga, the Eredivise was suspended with the remaining teams joining the BeNe League. Ice Hockey
Ice hockey (or simply hockey) is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an ice skating rink with lines and markings specific to the sport. It belongs to a family of sports called hockey. In ice hockey, two opposing teams use ice hockey sticks to control, advance and shoot a closed, vulcanized, rubber disc called a " puck" into the other team's goal. Each goal is worth one point. Tilburg () is a city and municipality in the Netherlands, in the southern province of North Brabant. Turnhout White Caps
The White Caps Turnhout are an ice hockey team in Turnhout, Belgium. The White Caps play in the Belgian Hockey League and North Sea Cup. They play their home games in Kempisch Ijsstadion. They participate in the Belgian Cup tournament and the Belgian Elite League. History The club was founded in 1981, and won their first Belgian Hockey League title in 2004. They then won their first Belgian Cup in 2006, and repeated their success by winning it in 2007, 2008, and 2009. They also won the Belgian Championship in 2007, 2008, and 2011. North Sea Cup
The ''North Sea Cup'' was a short-lived hockey league that temporarily succeeded the Dutch Eredivisie from 2010-2012. It was the only professional ice hockey league in the Netherlands and the highest level of competition sanctioned by the Nederlandse IJshockey Bond (NIJB; English: "Dutch Ice Hockey Federation") and sanctioned by the Royal Belgian Ice Hockey Federation during the years that it operated. It was created in 2010 when two top Belgian teams joined the six remaining teams of the Dutch professional league, called the "Eredivisie". In 2012, the Eredivisie was revived and the North Sea Cup tournament was disbanded, after the Dutch league admitted one of the Belgian teams of the North Sea Cup, HYC Herentals, as a full member. Zoetermeer Panthers
Zoetermeer Panthers is a former semi-professional ice hockey team in the Eredivisie, the Dutch professional, top-level hockey league. They played in the Silverdome, an ice sports facility in Zoetermeer, Netherlands. They began play for the 2010-2011 season in the Dutch Bekercompetitie, the league leading up to the National Cup championship game. On November 26 the club announced that they would withdraw from the Eredivisie, effective immediately, due to lack of sponsors and poor attendance figures. Amstel Tijgers
Amsterdam Tigers are an ice hockey team in Amsterdam, Netherlands, playing in the First Division. History The Tigers existed in various guises from their foundation in 1963 until 2010 when the professional team folded, leaving only the amateur and junior teams. The team reformed in time for the 2014-15 Eerste Divisie season. The following season they moved up to the newly formed BeNe League, where they remained until the 2019-20 season. Ahead of the 2019-20 BeNe Season, the Tigers announced they would be leaving the league and joining the Dutch First Division. IJCU Dragons Utrecht is a professional ice hockey team in Utrecht, Netherlands. The team played under the name "Hoek Dragons Utrecht" in the Dutch Eredivisie, the top professional hockey division in the Netherlands in 2008-2009. In 2013, it ceased operations. The Dutch Cup, better known in Dutch as the "Beker" or "Bekercompetitie", is the national ice hockey cup in the Netherlands. It was held from 1938 to 1939, and 1971-present. The Dutch Cup is usually an autumn competition that precedes or runs simultaneously with the regular season of the BeNe League, the Dutch and Belgian semi-professional ice hockey league. The format of the Dutch Cup competition is determined before each season and can vary depending on the number of teams competing.
