Erebuni Fortress
Erebuni Fortress ( hy, Էրեբունի) is an Urartian fortified city, located in Yerevan, Armenia. It is above sea level. It was one of several fortresses built along the northern Urartian border and was one of the most important political, economic and cultural centers of the vast kingdom. The name Yerevan itself is derived from Erebuni. Etymology On an inscription found at Karmir Blur, the Urartian verb ''erebu-ni'' is used in the sense of "to seize, pillage, steal, or kidnap" followed by a changing direct object. Scholars have conjectured that the word, as an unchanging direct object, may also mean "to take" or "to capture" and thus believe that the Erebuni at the time of its founding meant "capture", "conquest", or "victory." Erebuni Sport Club ( hy, Էրեբունի Սպորտային Ակումբ), was an Armenian football club based in the capital Yerevan. Founded as a football school for young players in 2007, the club entered the Armenian football league system in 2016. History In 2007, the club was founded as a youth football school under the ownership of ''Tigran Ayvazyan'', based in the Erebuni District of Yerevan. In June 2016, it was announced that the club was revived on the basis of the Erebuni football school located in the Erebuni District of Yerevan. Erebuni-Homenmen FC
Erebuni-Homenmen Football Club ( hy, Էրեբունի-ՀՄՄ Ֆուտբոլային Ակումբ), is a defunct Armenian professional football club that was based in the capital Yerevan. History The club was founded as Homenmen-FIMA FC in 1992 in the Armenian capital Yerevan, representing the sporting club of the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture. They participated in the first ever Armenian football competition in 1992 after the split-up from the Soviet Union. After the regular competition they qualified for the championship stage where they finished in the 9th position. As a result, they have qualified for the highest level in the 1993 season. In 1995, the club became known as Homenmen Yerevan FC, representing the pan-Armenian sports and scouting organization Homenmen (founded in Aleppo in 1921). Erebuni District
Erebuni ( hy, Էրեբունի վարչական շրջան, ''Erebuni varčakan šrĵan''), is one of the 12 districts of Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. It is situated southeast of the city centre where Erebuni Fortress is located. The name of Yerevan itself is derived from ancient ''Erebuni''. Erebuni is bordered by Shengavit District from the west, Kentron, Nork-Marash and Nor Nork districts from the north, Kotayk Province from the east, Nubarashen district and Kotayk Province from the south. Overview Erebuni has an area of 48 km² (21.52% of Yerevan city area), out of which 29 km² are occupied by residential or commercial buildings. Erebuni Museum
Erebuni Museum ( hy, Էրեբունի թանգարան, ) was established in 1968. The opening of the museum was timed to coincide with the 2750th anniversary of Yerevan. The Museum stands at the foot of the Arin Berd hill, on top of which the Urartian Fortress Erebouni has stood since 782 BCE. The city-fortress was excavated, some parts of the structure were reinforced and restored, and the fortress was turned into an outdoor museum. A cuneiform inscription testifies that the city was built by Argishti I the King of Urartu in 782 BCE. The majority of the fortress was built from raw bricks. The citadel was encircled by strong walls in some places built in three rows. The temple of God Khaldi occupied an important place in the fortress.
