Epupa Constituency
Epupa ( hz, Falling Waters) is a constituency in the Kunene Region of Namibia. Its population in 2004 was 12,816. , it has 12,182 registered voters. The villages of Epupa, Otjomuru, Ohamaremba and Okangwati belong to the Epupa constituency. Epupa is the location of the Epupa Falls after which it is named, located on the Angolan-Namibian border. Politics The 2015 regional election were won by Nguzu Muharukua of the Democratic Turnhalle Alliance (DTA) with 3,672 votes, closely followed by Jona Kakondo of the SWAPO Party with 3,260 votes. Erwin Muharukua of the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) also ran and gained 52 votes. Epupa was one of only two constituencies won by the DTA in this election. Herero (, ''Otjiherero'') is a Bantu language spoken by the Herero and Mbanderu peoples in Namibia and Botswana, as well as by small communities of people in southwestern Angola. There were 211,700 speakers in 2014. The Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) is a political party in Namibia. It was launched on 17 November 2007 under the leadership of Hidipo Hamutenya and Jesaya Nyamu, both former leading members of the ruling SWAPO party and cabinet ministers. Hamutenya had unsuccessfully sought the SWAPO nomination for President in 2004. At the time of the RDP's launch, it was considered to represent the strongest challenge to SWAPO's political dominance since the country gained its independence in 1990. Kunene Region
Kunene is one of the fourteen regions of Namibia. Its capital is Opuwo, its governor is Marius Sheya. The region's name comes from the Kunene River which forms the northern border with Angola. Besides the capital Opuwo, the region contains the municipality of Outjo, the town Khorixas and the self-governed village Kamanjab. Epupa Falls
Epupa Falls (also known as Monte Negro Falls in Angola) is a series of large waterfalls formed by the Cunene River on the border of Angola and Namibia, in the Kaokoland area of the Kunene Region. The river is about wide in this area and drops in a series of waterfalls across a length of , with the greatest single drop being in height. The settlement near the falls is also called Epupa. The name "Epupa" is a Herero word for "foam", in reference to the foam created by the falling water. The Epupa Constituency is named for the falls. Ecology Due to the specialised nature of this steep riparian habitat, the Epupa Falls are the locus of endemism for a number of fish and other aquatic species.
