Anna Epps
Anna Cherrie Epps (July 8, 1930 – May 18, 2017) was an American microbiologist known for her immunology research as well as her efforts to promote the advancement of minorities within the sciences, specifically medicine. Early life and education In 1930, Epps was born in New Orleans to Ernest Cherrie Sr., a physician, and Anna Cherrie, a former schoolteacher. She attended Corpus Christi Elementary School and Xavier University Preparatory High School, both Catholic schools in New Orleans. Epps started studying at Howard University when she was 16. In 1951, at age 19, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in zoology. Following her goal to become a physician, she applied to medical school at Howard University as well as Meharry Medical College. Epps was denied admission to both, however, attributed to her young age and gender. Jeanette Epps
Jeanette Jo Epps (born November 3, 1970) is an American aerospace engineer and NASA astronaut. Epps received both her M. S. and Ph.D degrees in aerospace engineering from the University of Maryland, where she was part of the rotor-craft research group and was a NASA GSRP Fellow. She was chosen for the 20th class of NASA astronauts in 2009, graduating in 2011. Epps currently serves as a member of the ISS Operations Branch and has completed analog astronaut missions, including NEEMO 18 and CAVES 19. She is the second woman and first African-American woman to have participated in CAVES. Shareeka Epps (born July 11, 1989) is an American actress. She is best known for starring in the 2006 film '' Half Nelson'', alongside Ryan Gosling. She won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead for her performance in the film. Life and career After being discovered in junior high school, Epps starred in the low budget, short film ''Gowanus, Brooklyn'' alongside Matt Kerr, playing the role of "Drey", a high school student. Preston Eugene Epps (July 19, 1930 – May 9, 2019) was an American percussionist. Career Epps was born in Mangum, Oklahoma. He learned to play percussion instruments, including the bongos, while he was stationed in Okinawa during the Korean War. After his tour of duty he settled in Southern California, playing in coffee shops and working odd jobs. Arthur Laboe, a local disc jockey, signed him to Original Sound Records, which released his single "Bongo Rock" in 1959. Phillip Epps (born November 11, 1959) is a former American football wide receiver for the Green Bay Packers (1982-1988) and the New York Jets (1989). He attended Texas Christian University. One of his more memorable catches was a 1985 game against the Minnesota Vikings in which he caught a pass from Lynn Dickey on the 21-yard line. His momentum from contact with a Vikings defender caused him to nearly fall out of bounds, but he successfully hopped on one foot along the sidelines for the remaining 21 yards for a touchdown. Orlo Epps (1864 – June 2, 1926) was an American architect, mathematician, physicist, and socialist writer. Life Epps was born in Elkhart, Indiana, the son of Edward Epps and Helen (Blanchard) Epps. He moved to Oneonta, New York at age 16. He graduated from high school in Oneonta and thereafter studied architecture at Cornell University, graduating in 1888. After receiving his degree from Cornell, Epps associated with builder Lyman H. Blend and practiced as an architect in Oneonta.
